Treated a few coworkers to a quick Italian lunch and was blown away with the food. Very top notch.

Food, service and ambiance were first rate. However, for some reason the restaurant has decided to levy a 20% service charge! The owner claims it is for increased operational cost. Of that amount, the wait staff only receives 2%. On the menu and the bill, tipping is presented as optional in addition to the 20% service charge. Most restaurants that we have been to levy a 2% – 4% service charge for increased operating costs. If you decide to go to Il Piatto, you should know this in advance.

Service fee was surprisingly high; knowing tips aren't included. And the menu needs to be replaced as it was falling apart and felt really cheap. I felt embarrassed in front of a client knowing i trusted this restaurant for a business meeting. Not sure if i can recommend this restaurant.

They added 20% service charge but said it wasn't a tip so prices are misleading. I felt manipulated and poorly treated. Bait and switch. Would not go back

Second time dining here. Seated quickly, attentive staff. My party of three ordered Ravioli Di Spinaci Melanzane Parmigiano, and Cesar salad with chicken,.The salad and ravioli were delicious. The eggplant was difficult to taste under the breaded coating and layers of cheese. The desserts were delicious but very tiny for the price. I would visit again but select a different entree and pass on the dessert.

Food was delicious and service was great. We were caught off guard that a 20% Service fee was added to our check which was not gratuity.

Food was great! Drinks were great! Service is a little slow. They don't tell you that they add on an additional 20% service fee that DOES NOT go to the server, so if you aren't paying attention , you might leave without tipping extra. That extra tip does go to the server.

Food and service was decent. BE AWARE: 20% “service fee” charged on top of bill NOT inclusive of tip. On top of already upcharged food prices, this place is ridiculously overpriced, but cute.

Service was great, food was delicious but for the portion of pasta, it was a little overpriced considering it is just tomato sauce and linguine, plus pasta was overcooked.

A 20% service charge was added to the check., although neither the menu nor the waiter provided prior information. Upon questioning this charge I was told that it is legal and it would not include the tip.

We enjoyed the food and will chalk up the poor service as being forgot about as the only table dinning outside. I can not get past is the automatic 20% gratuity added, regardless of party size. We were not warned about the automatic 20% added and would not had tipped 20% for being forgotten about.

20% service fee makes this a “never return”. It’s a slimy practice. If you have to rely on fine print on a menu to turn a profit then you need to revaluate your business model. I feel bad for the staff that has to be the face of it. While the food was decent, I’ll never return.

Truly disenchanted by the service. Our waitress, Aya, according to my receipt, came only to take our order and never returned. She was servicing other tables and my colleague I observed her checking in on other guests often. However she never returned to us. Finally after 30 minutes once her main course was about finished, my colleague was able to grab the waitress’ attention when she quickly passed our table, just to get a beverage refill. We couldn’t help but notice that we were the only people of color sitting inside for lunch. We work close to the White House and so this was a convenient choice due to the proximity. It was our first and last time. The dessert arrived and was incorrect, and the waitress refused to come to our table to bring us the dessert, correct the error, or speak to us at all. We had to find another server finally to assist us. As a lawyer working in the heart of DC, am truly disappointed in this behavior and am thankful to the great nearby locations available for business lunches and coffees so that I need not return here. Please service all of your customers equally in the future.
