20 percent service fee is a bit ridiculous when expected to fully tip as well. Restaurant is hurting their own staff

I will quote what's written on the bill: “A 20% service fee will be added to all guest checks and will be used to cover our increasing operational costs. Service fees are not tips. Tips are not expected, but always appreciated”. I find this behavior outrageous. Raise your prices if you need, but enough with excuses. You damage all the experience at a nice restaurant by doing this. I would prefer to tip the waiters, and not be subject to a mandatory 20% “fee”. Ridiculous. Apart from that, nice food, nice drinks in a wonderful place.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal last night. July 3rd. Audrey was our waitress and she did a superb job. Food was very fast out of kitchen. Everything was great

We come here whenever we are in the DC area and staying nearby. Good food, nice atmosphere and good service. No overall complaints and will likely be back.

They don't greet you first off. No menu intro, and forget to bring drinks and bread. They pay no attention to you. Passed us multiple times with out checking on us. Overall service bad and food not bad.

My wife and I both had excellent meals. She ordered the short ribs which were tasty, generous in quantity, and reasonably priced. I ordered the rack of lamb which was perfectly cooked and also very tasty. The restaurant was quiet since it wasn't particularly busy and the service was attentive and prompt. An excellent experience overall

Unbearably hot and unreasonably expensive — disappointing experience I brought a colleague here for dinner and was incredibly disappointed. The restaurant's air conditioning was broken, and it was nearly 90 degrees outside. Our server told us the AC had been out for a week — yet there was no warning when we booked or arrived. We ended up sweating through the meal in a stifling environment that honestly made it hard to enjoy anything. Then came the bill: a 20% “service charge” was automatically added, and when I asked if that was the tip, the server said no — that gratuity was expected on top of that. I was told this policy is "mentioned on the website," but I don't think it's fair to expect diners to scour fine print before deciding where to eat. In the end, I was expected to pay 30–40% above the actual cost of our food, despite the poor dining conditions. It felt excessive, unclear, and frankly exploitative. I hope management seriously rethinks both their comfort standards and pricing transparency, because this is not how you treat paying customers.

Amazing food, but lack of service. Plus the restaurant surprises you with a message on the bill that they automatically include a 20% service fee to help supplement rising costs. That shouldn't be on the patron to support. It's called the cost of doing business. Sure, raise your menu prices but don't put it on a bill with a statement like that. Server only checked on us once throughout the dining experience, and that was with the place only having 3-4 tables of people. Needless to say, she got a $5 tip, the restaurant can give her the 20% fee added in our bill.

Excelente ambiance and food. The service was spot on but like another post stated, it's silly to have a 20% operational service fee, which it states it's not a tip, all the while the receipt states “additional tip”, just so your menu prices don't look expensive. Covid is over so there's no need for this.

Air conditioning was out on a very warm humid day and we weren't notified beforehand even though we had reservations. Timing was a bit off between courses. They did honor a request I had put in for some special dessert additions, so that was appreciated!
