Jam Doung Restaurant is hands down one of the best places for authentic Jamaican food in the area. From the moment you walk in, the aroma alone tells you you're in for something special. The staff is warm, welcoming, and happy to share their recommendations if you're new to the menu.

I got the oxtails and jerk chicken. They were good. Affordable. I would eat here again.

I’m a big fan of Jamaican food and especially oxtail, and Jam Doung has some of the best in DC. While the prices are on par with what you’d expect in 2025, I do wish they’d add a bit more oxtail to the plate or be more careful about the fat and texture. Couldn’t bite 2 of the 6 pieces given. Sometimes it’s perfect, but other times it’s a bit off. The coco bread was dry this time, which was disappointing since I’ve had fresher ones from them before. And the mac and cheese wasn’t great and never is, it tasted like just cheese and butter, very dry. But I know they can do better, and I’m hoping they’ll step it up next time!

Macaroni and cheese was dry. Cabbage was sauerkraut style. Chicken was tasty but burnt and dry. It’s a no for me.

The portions are wrong. I paid for curry chicken with sides of rice & a salad. I got rice as a main portion. I paid money the chicken, ok! It was good but the rice was a little mushy & the beans weren’t cooked fully. Please don’t make me spend my money on no dang rice now!

Jam doung is always my go to spot when I’m in the mood for some Caribbean food. I ordered the lunch special brown stew chicken with rice and cabbage and a side of macaroni & cheese. The brown stew chicken was so good and flavorful. I also love their oxtails so bomb.

very slow
I would not be returning amymore to this establishment and will not recommend .. Too overpriced, give small portion and you will be snacking on bones instead of meat .. You call to complain and show pictures and they still overlook you. I will give my money to other competitors who food is better and care for there customers!!!

Jam Doung Style catered my party, and I truly cannot recommend them enough. The food was absolutely incredible—hands down the best catering experience I've ever had. I hosted a mixed group of about 30 guests from various backgrounds (including my very picky Jamaican family!), and everyone raved about the food for weeks afterward.
I ordered curry shrimp, jerk chicken, snapper, oxtail, rice and peas, white rice, cabbage, salad, butternut rum cake, and sweet potato cake. Every single dish was perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented, and clearly made with a lot of love and care. There was something for everyone, and despite the generous portions, hardly anything was left over!
The catering coordinator was also outstanding—so patient and accommodating. Their team worked closely with me to select the right quantities and made the entire process seamless and stress-free. I am truly grateful.
