Keren Cafe & Restaurant Reviews
Go. Now. If it’s closed, just wait outside til it opens and thank me later. I CANNOT recommend them higher. The food was absolutely phenomenal. Portion sizes that can feed 2-3 people. Ridiculously delicious food. Great prices… and most outstanding THE SERVICE!
The lady running the place was quite simply one of the kindest sweetest souls you’ll ever meet, took care of us like we were part of the family and honestly was just incredible.
The veg sampler and the tilapia were the stand outs!
Every time I’m in DC I ha r to visit. This is the most amazing Ethiopian food in the country.

Keren Cafe & Restaurant offers a variety of Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes, with options such as beef tibs, fish dulet, and a vegetarian plate. The beef tibs have a good level of spiciness, while the fish dulet has a tasty amount of spice. The restaurant has a laid-back atmosphere, although it has been noted to be a bit unclean with flies present. Service is fast and attentive, and the restaurant is affordable.
Customers have described the restaurant as a "hole in the wall mom and pop shop" where the food feels like it's "made at home in the kitchen - just for you." The vegetarian platter is a popular choice, and some customers add grilled chicken. The restaurant staff is said to be kind, and the food and its flavors are described as "incredible." Despite some issues with cleanliness and overcrowding, the restaurant remains a favorite in the neighborhood, known for its low-key, weekend dinners and take-away options on weekdays.
