Amazing time for my first omakase experience!!

Blacklisted: KIYOMI in DC (1850 K St NW).
When I walked in, the entire sushi bar was empty. I asked to sit somewhere brighter, but they insisted on putting me in the darkest corner. It took three requests before they reluctantly moved my plate.
The lunch Omakase was supposed to include 7 pieces of sushi—they only served 5 and claimed it was done.
After I pointed it out, they brought out 1 more. I asked about the last one, and they actually demanded “proof”?
Luckily, I had taken a photo, so they finally acknowledged it. And then, just to top it off, they added wasabi to the final piece—after I had clearly said no wasabi (and none of the previous ones had any).
$50 for a meal that felt like a courtroom battle. Absolutely terrible experience. Never going back.

quality declined. hardly any fish compared to rice
Conclusion: the sushi quality doesn’t worth the money, even its good price for omakase. But then you rather go to order nigiri in other good restaurants.
To people for the lunch omakase:
You should know that, apparently, the chef only serve dinner and his trainee serve lunch.
The sushi fell apart when they come to my plate( 2 out of 7). Most sushi are too salty.
Fish is fresh. But compared to other omakase, this is not well-designed flavor.
the person serve today apparently is not well trained enough. I don’t blame him, he tried his best. But I think the chef needs to be more rigorous/responsible for food being served. I don’t think a real sushi restaurant will let trainee start serving without being really prepared.
I will definitely not come back.
Had a great time and really enjoyed the omakase experience. The akami, chutoro, saba and uni rice here my highlights.
A genuine dining experience by a chef who cares about his food and craft.
The whole experience was gluten free to fit dietary requirements.
Reservations only for dinner and walk in only for lunch, atmosphere was ok, since it’s shared space with a few other restaurants, the music and ambiance is hard to control. But the food is soooo good, you’ll forget all about it. Photos don’t do it justice, so I’ll just post 1. The whole omasake is very well crafted in terms of flavor profile and texture.
Good: All the seafood tastes fresh.
Bad: Fish bone and fish scale in the sushi fish. The rice is too warm, very sour and has no texture, which ruins every piece of sushi. Fishing smell in the drinking water.
I cannot imagine this is the food quality at $100+ per person.
This was my first time having an omakase experience and what a better way than with their $40 lunch special! Had king salmon, yellowtail, seabass, smoked salmon, bluefin tuna, and the most delicious fatty salmon. Finished off the meal with a perfectly salted miso soup and a nice spicy tuna hand roll. The experience was perfectly paced so we had time to enjoy every single piece. We got there at around 11:45 AM on a tuesday so it wasn’t super busy but by the time we left? there were a good amount of people in the area so get there early if you don’t want to wait!
I had the Valentine’s Day omakase at KIYOMI Sushi by Uchi, and it was an incredible experience. Each dish was unique, with amazing flavors and beautifully fresh sushi. The presentation was stunning, and you can really tell the quality and attention to detail.
The atmosphere is something to keep in mind—KIYOMI is located in a food court, so while I personally didn’t mind, the presence of families and kids might make it feel less romantic for some. That said, I absolutely loved the emo music playing in the background! Overall, a fantastic meal with great vibes—just know what to expect with the setting.

Do not try this place on a weekend night when there is 'entertainment' at the food hall. My wife and I had a reservation last night to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately there was a DJ set up and blasting music directly at the sushi counter (which was about half full). We elected not to dine here, and informed the staff, as the noise was unreasonably loud. And now they think they are going to get a $100 cancelation fee from us. We will see how that plays out.
You can’t get omakase this good in DC, especially not at this price. Highly recommend, especially the dinner.
This is one of our favorite spots, thanks to Alan who gives us a phenomenal experience every time we are here! We travel everywhere looking for good omakase experiences and 10/10 this lunch spot delivered! Shoutout to you Alan!
Great place to have a quick omakase lunch located inside the international square. The fish was fresh and chef did a great job!
A friend suggested Kiyomi for lunch, and I’m so glad she did! They have an amazing lunch special: a 7-piece omakase for just $40, which also includes miso soup and a hand roll. This special was hard to pass up.
Seating is limited and first come, first served, so we decided to go during the week and arrived early to avoid any crowds. There’s only counter seating, and they serve each piece of sushi one at a time, which really lets you take in the the flavors of the meal. Every piece of sushi was fresh, filling, and full of flavor, and the miso soup was the perfect complement to the meal.
If you’re looking for excellent sushi at a great price, check out Kiyomi! It's definitely worth the price.
