An old time favorite that has maintained its high standards through the years. Cozy french county inn feel with fireplace. No great surprises on menu but all prepared well and served with charm and grace. Most think of here for dinner but a great lunch spot as well.
LaChaumiere is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is great, the service is gracious and efficient. It is a little crowded and getting more expensive.
An outstanding dining experience. Impeccable service and ambiance. The winter salad was beautifully prepared, calves liver is the absolute best in town. French onion soup and boudin blanc were also excellent. Nice mocktail offerings. Felt transported during a very fine dining experience - can't wait to return. The winter months are wonderful for this restaurant - there is a huge central fireplace which adds to the charm.
Always delicious old fashion French cuisine Fabulous soufflés. Normally good service but this waiter was aggressive and wanted us on his timeline. Despite being told we had all been many times and pretty much knew what we wanted, he gave the entire description of restaurant offerings.
Quaint, mashed up old food ... Wasn't my favorite , lots of older seniors citizens and that's the vibe. Couldn't even make an old fashioned...

This place has no integrity. They made a commitment to divorce themselves from foie gras half a year ago and couldn't keep their word. What else are they lying about?

This place serves foie gras and is already aware of how disgusting and cruel it is. Ducks are force fed with a tube down their throat so that they are overweight and by extension, their livers can be enlarged just to be consumed by either unknowing or heartless people. This business is profiting from animal abuse and should not be supported under any circumstances.
Rude staff and broken promises. They said they’d stop selling foie gras, then quietly slipped it onto the NYE menu thinking customers wouldn’t notice. Clearly profits matter more to them than ethics.
It’s like a visit to France when you enter La Chaumiere! The ambiance is delightful, the food is creative and superb, and the service is impeccable. I wish the star rating could be higher because on a scale of 1-5 it soars well beyond!

La Chaumiere is a sad joke compared to its former legacy.
I ordered the New York strip, and it was not cooked to order—dry, tough, and exactly what you get when a steak has been pre-prepared and pushed to medium rather than freshly fired. The cream peppercorn and brandy sauce was equally disappointing, lacking balance, depth, and any sense of proper execution.
I didn’t raise the issue at the table only because my waiter was a longtime friend, but the quality of the food speaks for itself.
There are far better restaurants in DC that still take pride in what they serve.

While planning for my vacation to DC, this was one of the few places that really caught my attention for some reason. I'll say the experience was alright! I wasn't very hungry so just had the main and a dessert. The complementary bread and butter was delicious. For the main, I got the Duck Confit, and will say it was prepared really well; loved the crisp skin on the duck leg and the carrots with the potatoes were cooked to perfection. The cabbage however was soaking in the sauce which probably made it soggy and the texture chewy. Still overall a good dish. The Grand Marnier Soufflé was quite delicious but not great because the texture seemed runnier than usual. Perhaps it was the immediate addition of the crème sauce that made it that way. I was really hoping for a smooth consistency.
The ambiance was lovely with a cozy fireplace, still the tables were quite cramped. Not bad for a one time experience.

Chaumière is a charming French spot with food that feels authentic and well-executed. The classics, like the duck and the escargot, were cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and the sides complemented everything nicely. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a relaxed yet refined vibe, and the service is friendly and attentive without being stuffy. It’s a great choice for a casual dinner with a touch of elegance, and I’d happily return.

I’ve been going for lunch or dinner for more than 25 years. A family favorite too; they show respect and flexibility when asked to make adjustments. Delightful traditional cozy (not cavernous) atmosphere, especially with a fire burning in winter — you are transported to Strasbourg as soon as you enter. Soufflés are outstanding: start with the Emmental and end up with the chocolate, Grand Marnier, and/or raspberry. Wonderful beef dishes; oysters Chaumiere, trout amandine also superb.

The food & service were excellent but, unfortunately, the atmosphere was not conducive to dinner talk. The restaurant was so crowded (which was good for the business) but it seems to me that the restaurant tried to accommodate more guests than normally it does. There was so little room for the servers to move around. I didn’t enjoy the evening, because the tables were so close to each other that I couldn’t help but hear the loud conversation going on at the next table. Maybe I’ll come back, but never on a weekend. I hope management will consider the importance of atmosphere vis-a-vis accommodating more guests.
