First experience at Maketto and it was good! My biggest takeaway is that I need to go back and really dig into the menu. I stopped by for a quick dinner before heading to an event so I didn't give the due diligence that it deserved. But the items I did have left me intrigued and delighted. I had a few dumplings that were wonderful. My friend loved the oysters and the chicken pho. I WILL BE BACK. I loved the chill and relaxed environment, the low lights and the creative space. I will definitely be back to further explore and take advantage of the menu.

We hosted our wedding ceremony and reception at Maketto, and it was the best decision we made during our wedding planning process. Erik and his team made the planning process a breeze, and our guests had nothing but fantastic things to say about the experience, food, cocktails, and staff. We didn't need to add much decor as the restaurant already looks amazing. The patio is perfect for an intimate ceremony, and you can have the dance floor either inside or outside. We rented out the whole restaurant and comfortably hosted just under 100 guests. We can't wait to come back whenever we're in town and are so thrilled to have had Maketto a part of our special day! Thank you, Maketto team!

The food was a classic DC letdown. Nothing was terrible, but everything was mediocre at best.
I got the strange flavor eggplant, pork bao, Cambodian noodle soup, and lo mein (the waiter's recommendation).
The strange flavor eggplant was definitely not in the space of the guaiwei dishes I've had and made.
The pork bao was pulled pork in a bao, which was kinda strange.
The broth for the Cambodian noodle soup was tasteless, but the youtiao was good (I suspect it was purchased elsewhere, however).
The lo mein was also mostly flavorless, and far too sweet.
However, the waiter was kind and quick, and even brought out a free ice cream for my date's birthday (the highlight of the meal, which I also suspect was purchased outside ?)
The restaurant was a little loud, as there were a lot of hard surfaces, and the seating was a little tight.
The prices weren't too high, but they added on a 20% "autogratuity." I don't know about the tolerance others have for this sort of thing, but it makes me angry. Tipping culture in America is bad enough as is, but if it's mandatory, it should be included in the price of the items.
Overall, I don't think I'll be returning, but it wasn't a horrendous experience.

Lol 20% "auto gratuity" on a coffee is insane, especially because they don't even have the courtesy to notify guests with a statement on the menu. Service was good but my coffee was too acidic and they had the music up too loud. I certainly won't patronize this restaurant again due to their dishonestly and questionable business practice.

Maketto is now charging an automatic 20% tip to all TAKE OUT orders. Charge that for sit down bills when you’re actually being waited on but don’t tack that on to take-out orders that are only getting boxed up. Especially when they take 10 minutes to answer the phone to even take the order. Sad because maketto used to be my go to spot for takeout but not anymore.

Below average food. Overpriced at that too. Do not sit outside the mosquitos will eat you alive and the whole outside area smells like off spray which they have at every table to let you know the mosquitos gunna eat as much as you. Shrimp tasted fishy, pork boa tasted old, shrimp fried rice was greasy and bland. The fried chicken wasn’t good the breading came off as soon as you bit into it, the chicken had a weird taste to it. Couldn’t wait to give me 20% gratuity they charged so I could get outta there.

My best friend and I recently visited DC, and we stumbled upon Maketto Asian Cuisine—what a gem! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the staff were incredibly welcoming.
We decided to go for the fried chicken, lo mein, and a few appetizers, and every bite was pure perfection. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside—absolutely mouthwatering. The lo mein was packed with flavor, with just the right balance of savory and sweet. Each appetizer we tried was a delightful surprise, making it hard to pick a favorite!
And let's not forget the mocktails—they were just as impressive. Refreshing, well-balanced, and the perfect complement to our meal. We left completely satisfied and already planning our next visit. If you're in DC, Maketto is a must-visit for any food lover!

Excellent restaurant week choice - the pork bao buns and ginger chicken soup dumplings were my favorite. We got the fried chicken salad (a restaurant week item) which allowed us to sample the Maketto fried chicken I had heard so much about. It was good, but could have used a sauce or dressing? The restaurant has a cool, laid back ambience. Such a fun vibe and an overall great lunch experience. Thank you Maketto !
