We love to eat here. Gravy & Biscuit is a must! The atmosphere is great, I love having dates here with my husband. We’ve bring friends & family here when they are in town.

The atmosphère was fine, busy place, the service was fine, no complaints.
I was there last year the food was good, apparently they might have changed the CHEF this year.

I asked for 2 well done hamburgers for me and my daughter, the meat was red, I took one bite and left the rest, my daughter ate it but told me to not come back again to this place as the test was below the standard. The beet salad was insulting, I was surprised from the small quantity that never seen it before: 2 slices of thin beets, the third one was cut in 12 pieces spreaded around to cover the emptiness of the plate with few drops of goat cheese. We literally ate the salad with toothpicks.
We end up paying $200 and I went home to continue my dinner.
Bad experience for me and my family.

I came here after reading that JFK famously proposed to Jackie at Martin’s — and honestly, that little piece of history makes the place even more magical. Since I adore Georgetown and keep coming back, this spot was a must.

Martin’s Tavern is a Georgetown classic that never loses its charm. The wood-paneled interiors, intimate booths, and vintage photos lining the walls make you feel like you’ve stepped right into history. The food is hearty and comforting — their crab cakes and American classics never disappoint.

Service is warm and welcoming, striking that perfect balance between casual and personal. Whether it’s brunch, dinner, or just soaking in the legacy of a true D.C. institution, Martin’s always delivers. It’s the kind of place where stories live on.

Met some work buddies at Martin’s Tavern and ended up ordering a few different things. The shepherd’s pie was hearty and filling, rich with that Guinness flavor and piled high with mashed potatoes. The French onion soup was probably my favorite though, loaded with cheese and the broth had real depth to it. I tried the ahi tuna salad which was lighter, fresh and had a nice sesame crust that gave it some crunch. Couldn’t leave without dessert so i went with the bread pudding and it came with a bourbon caramel sauce that was the kind of thing you keep scraping the plate for.

The food was fresh and quickly delivered, cooked to perfection (fish was perfectly pan seared, fish and chips as well, beef served as ordered).

Service was excellent.

But the operational fee was a surprise, 5-6% it is quite a lot and unexpected.
We have been visiting the place years ago, and cannot remember this fee.

I found this little gem whilst wondering around Georgetown. Ok, I was lost, but what a find! The food was fantastic and very reasonable and the service was top notch. I enjoyed it so much I went back three days in a row!

Nice bar and friendly staff. Didn't try the food though.

Knowing the historic value this place holds, I was expecting a nice date night type venue. But it was more like a like a bar atmosphere: loud and crammed with people. My husband and I ate and left. Nothing special. My only positive - I liked the chocolate old fashioned.

Only got an appetizer but had wanted to go in for years. Cool place. Want to return. Food was good and inside was very cool. Proud to be a namesake. Keep up the good work and thanks for the bandages. I fell on M

Martin's Tavern is a Washington, DC fixture in Georgetown as the brass plaques in the booths attest (we sat in the Madeleine Albright booth - the political tilt is towards Democrats, as is, of course, the entire District). The booths are cosy, if not a bot cramped. The food menu offers standard American fare at surprisingly reasonable prices albeit with a somewhat limited wine list. The service is attentive and efficient. Kids are welcome and indeed numerous (we visited on a Sunday evening). A good place to go for a family outing. With a bit of luck you may even see a (usually Democratic) big whig.

The food and staff were great. George was incredibly attentive -- we went to a few nice restaurants on our trip and this was easily the best experience.

Classic Georgetown!
Reservations recommend.

I stopped by for a quick and was lucky to find a seat at the bar.

The drinks are served with a generous pour.

The smoked salmon platter was a perfect snack while shopping.
