Yummy! Several of us got takeout from Masala Story this past Friday night. We were at a club a few blocks away that served no food at all and discovered Masala Story on a google search. Masala Story had options for both meat eaters and non meat eaters. My husband had chicken tikka masala and I had paneer korma. We both enjoyed our food immensely. Each of our meals came with chickpeas and a helping of fluffy basmati rice. Big portions - I could barely finish mine! This was excellent, flavorful food. The naan was delicious! We'll definitely go back the next time we're in the neighborhood!
This was a pick as we drove into DC to visit family The food was mostly good service was ok but despite ordering well ahead of arrival was left waiting which was frustrating As others have noted the entree or mains portions are small compared to any other Indian restaurant or take out. The rice comes in a typical square to-go dish with a small spoon of chickpeas on top of the rice. The main dishes come in a small container that left everyone hungry Overall disappointing
The people were friendly and the food was tasty, but I honestly think that this place is extremely overpriced. The naan was lacking butter, the rice was bland, and the portions were TINY. I ordered over the phone and had looked up the menu online. I guess the menu was from a different year, because when I went to pick up my food and was told the total, the prices had gone up about $3-4 per item. Entrees were about $17 instead of $12 or $13. I figured that wouldn’t be a huge deal, because at every Indian restaurant I’ve ever eaten at I always come home with massive leftovers. Unfortunately, that was not the case here, and the food was average and unfortunately did not justify the price or portion. I’m also aware that this restaurant is in DC, which is a place known to have fairly pricey restaurants. However, my favorite Indian restaurant all time is in Bethesda, Maryland, which has similarly expensive restaurants, except that Indian restaurant has outstanding quality food and huge portions. I was also not given the second order of samosas I had placed, which was unfortunate, but really not the reason for my review. I just don’t think that the quality or portions come close to justify the price they charge. I was astonished when my to-go order for 4 people came to over $100, not including the tip.
