Saturdays they have a fixed price $45 brunch. We only wanted a pizza and a salad, no cocktails, so it wasn't worth it. Open Table—can you post this on their reservation portal?
Today was my birthday. It is 7:04 PM and we are just home for our evening out at matchbox last time. The kids took me was for Mother’s Day and my last birthday. I will have to say that the menu has changed. Some things are not the same, and it takes away from the previous experiences. The food was good. I’m gonna give it that the service and the server was not and she didn’t get a tip for that reason it’s like she was hearing us, but not hearing us and I get it. A lot is going on around her, but there was no real service no attention to detail no attention to our table or our needs and anyone who knows me I’m a big tipper all day long When I get stellar service so I was a little disappointed in that fact, will I return for the food we shall see as I said the menu has changed. Some things have changed and I know it’s gotta be. The current climate changes have to be made. I get that but The food wasn’t the same
I've been a longtime fan of Matchbox since they opened their first location in Chinatown years ago. I had not been to the Barracks Row location in quite some time. I was really disappointed to see how much this location has really changed for the worse in terms of the clientele, general atmosphere, cleanliness, and service. Thankfully the food quality was still good. I do not plan to return to this location again.
I went there during happy hour 3-6 pm , chicken wings & smash burgers are good . I would recommend smash burgers for sure
We've been seeing the posts about the weekend brunch and finally made our way after 8am service 2 weeks ago to check it out. We didn't have a reservation, and the 4 of us arrived separately, probably 10 mins apart, but as no one was there at 10 am Sunday morning, the first one to arrive was seated right away. As soon as we arrived the server was there ready to take orders. Three all American breakfasts were ordered at different times due to the varying arrivals as well as the shrimp and grits minus the turkey sausage. The food came out just as quickly as the server took the orders, but didn't look as appetizing as the advertisement, which is to be expected. What wasn't expected were the overcooked/practically burned eggs, the All American that was served with the wrong egg preparation that took 20 minutes to come back or the burned stuffed French toast which was ordered later. I didn't take a picture of the black French toast that came to the table. The bottoms of all 3 pieces were black. The French Toast isn't stuffed with anything, it's just stacked. The manager couldn't even believe the kitchen sent that out. The server was very strict on the 2 hour time limit, but the manager allowed us a little time extra due to the numerous food and server issues. Yeah, the half empty restaurant caused our server to not come back to clear the dirty plates or replenish the bottomless drinks as often as she should. But trust and believe at an hour and 45 minutes, she told us we had 15 minutes and asked if we wanted any last order. The manager did tell us that a DJ comes in after 12 and they do get a little crowded, but he was very gracious to allow us the extra time, so we did hear some of the DJ's set. What we heard was a good set and was at a nice volume where you could enjoy the music and still have conversation with others at the table.
I'm open to trying their brunch again, just not at this location. Location is everything and is this difference that makes a difference
Food selections were perfectly sized like Tapas portions. Drinks were flavorful and potent as well. The 2 hour seating time was more then enough to request all the dishes that we desired to try and repeat.
This place has truly improved since my last post! The Manager Shamik is on point and ensures that everything is GOOD! Thank you for putting him here in my neighborhood!
Great food, great service, and great for families. This rounded out our weekend in DC and made our trip complete!
Our server, Chuck was amazing! Food was hot and delicious. Drinks were lit. Cool atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
The bartender (Albert) was phenomenal. The service was impeccable. Our server Chuck checked on us throughout the meal & kept our drinks full. The food was great. Hot fresh & flavorful. Shamik the manager was Dj, server & hosting. Seeing a manager be so hands on is refreshing to see.
Overall great experience, phenomenal customer service & fun atmosphere!!!!

Matchbox has a definitely the place to be for Saturday brunch. The Capital Hill location is the best in the DMV area.
Chuck the server is great, Albert the bartender pours it up in the best way and the manager Shameek is active on the floor serving, DJ’n and seating guest. Ray is also super helpful assisting the servers.
Hit up this location to enjoy the music, food and atmosphere.
Me and my crew will definitely make this a regular spot.
It wasn't busy and the hostess completely ignored us and then when we told her we had a reservation she said she needed 5 minutes. Then I got a notification from open table that I “missed” my reservation. Our server was extremely slow for the level of business that evening. We ordered drinks and waited 20 mins for initial waters and drinks from the bar after ordering. We also had to track her down for the bill. And when my husband asked for Parmesan, it never came. I don't usually complain on a busy night, but there were tons of empty tables and this was just straight being ignored.
Overall good food. We went for brunch, great value. Sat outside and unfortunately the wait service was a bit slow. I think our waiter had tables inside, so often we were forgotten... but good food. Good priced drinks. Will go again and maybe try sitting inside to see if service is better
We went around 10:45, and it was quiet—not busy. Our waitress, I believe her name was Tiffany, was great. Our food came fast, and we enjoyed everything we ate. We had the bottomless brunch and a bottle of champagne. Everything was great.
Upon entering the restaurant we were sat upstairs. Waiter came to our table to take our order and he informed us that we can't sit at the table unless we were ordering unlimited brunch and drinks. He then said we'd have to move to the bar but we made reservations for a table and wasn't informed about this prior to sitting down. We moved to a table near the bar and service was EXTREMELY SLOWWW. We waited for everything including sauces. Portions were small and we paid $25 +. Nice establishment but poor service and communication.
