We really enjoyed our visit to this great little neighborhood spot. Matera was based in the bottom of The River Inn hotel. The dining area was small, decorated, and cozy. We sat at a small high top table by the window. I wish I had gotten pictures of the food to post because it was plated very well, looked appetizing and tasted amazing. Our service was on point, was very friendly and gave great reccomendations. It was so good we may go back for breakfast today. Thank you for the great experience.

Very pleasantly surprised! Really small spot and in a hotel so I was a bit worried but the food was phenomenal! The space was cozy and inviting. It is a tight spot so make a reservation ahead of time. It may also not be wheelchair accessible as most tables at bar tops, limited regular tables and tight spaces. In all I would definitely come back for a quick bite before or after a show at the Kennedy center

The servers Fabrizio and Sukeyna always manage to make our dinner experience very pleasant. The noise level sometimes is a problem. Perhaps some thick wall hangings could help to lower the decibels.
Small, attractive restaurant with a substantial menu of tasty Italian dishes. Last night the Branziino was excellent! Wine menu is limited. #1 plus!! We love the location - usually street parking possible and within walking distance of the Kennedy Center. Surrounded by attractive brownstones often decorated for holidays. Young, enthusiastic wait staff. We will definitely be back.
The service is very good. But the food is just mediocre, at best, but it was served fresh and hot. We had the pre theater menu. Cesar salad, it lacked dressing which is fine, because the little that was on it tasted like bottled dressing. Spinach ravioli - there was so much sauce on it, it was hard to know what it tasted like. The salmon- while it wasn't dripping in sauce, it too had too much. But the salmon under it was decent. Chocolate cake that was served for dessert was just a touch dry. Nothing special. I was told that it was made in house. I somehow doubt that, but if it was, it wasn't fresh. This restaurant was supposed to be in Italian. I didn't see many dishes that they actually serve in Italy. Where are the tomato sauce dishes? It's definitely an American restaurant.
Good food. Friendly service.

Restaurantji Recommends
We were glad to find this little restaurant, the food was great, we had steaks which were cooked to perfection, children had pasta, the staff were very attentive, the price very fair prices for George Town. Will definitely recommend.

Superb dining experience! Professional, welcoming host; excellent starters (2) and mains (4) for our party of four; nice wine selection; and exceptional, friendly, efficient and professional service by Amanda and the entire Matera team! Thanks - we'll be back!
The service was great! Can't believe the staff of two was so efficient. We didn't wait long for anything. Bar tender was top notch- drink making and friendliness were unmatched!
Food was very average. Music too loud. Server was attentive but continually used the word “grab” when talking about getting something for us. “Grab” belongs at Burger King not at a $30/plate restaurant.
This was the perfect spot to get some delicious food before the show at the Kennedy Center. I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this place before. I will definitely come back again!
