Dark yet good ambiance and details are solid inside. Drinks are very good. They definitely know how to make good cocktails.

Our favorite cocktail bar in the DMV area. The team here truly knows what they are doing! Suggest get there before dinner and put your name down otherwise you need to wait for 1-3 hrs.

With the pandemic closure of Capitol Hill's Harold Black, Washington, D.C. needs more top-notch speakeasies. Enter O.K.P.B from the creator of The Sheppard, another popular bar that closed. Here's why you must visit this Mount Pleasant speakeasy:

1) Drinks: Monday-Saturday starting at 5 p.m., they create a hand written menu of a handful of drinks based on the bartender's inspiration and inventory. Always on the list is a "bartender's choice," the truest test of a bar worth their salt. O.K.P.B. nails it. Armed with my preference for sweet drinks, the bartender created three (yep, they were that good) unique, distinct drinks that tickled my sweet tooth. Each was well shaken and innovative- among the best cocktails in Washington, D.C. Each cocktail is $14.

2) Space: It's a speakeasy so they don't take reservations. It's first come, first served. My buddy and I walked in on a Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. and were seated within 10 minutes after being on the waitlist. Once inside, it gives off classy, yet inviting speakeasy vibes. The space is dark and dimly lit. There are booths, tables and the bar in the back. There are two small restrooms that look like a home library. Push the books to open the restroom for more surprises inside.

3) Vibes: It's a speakeasy in a very inviting neighborhood and O.K.P.B. balances the two well. You feel like you're in a friend's personal speakeasy. The bartenders are elite in their craft but approachable in spirit.

4) Location: Once you're on the waitlist, they'll text you when a table is ready. You then have 15 minutes to get their before releasing your table. That gives you some time to walk up and down Mount Pleasant Street N.W. looking inside local shops, other bars and restaurants. The neighborhood has a number of Free Little Libraries, historic homes and murals within alleys, giving visitors plenty to see while killing time. We found free street parking a few blocks south within the actual neighborhood.

If you want to impress a date, hang with friends or feel cool, visit O.K.P.B. They'll create an experience you won't soon forget.

AMAZING bartenders can make you anything you want / try something new based on their recommendations and expertise, their daily menu is always quality choices as well. Small speakeasy city environment, a great spot.

Stood outside, increasingly confused for about 10 minutes before hesitantly ringing a doorbell. Was promptly swept up a flight of stairs and into a dimly-lit, quaint and buzzy speakeasy.

OKPB is all about the experience. They have a handful of cocktails on the menu (which changes daily) but the actual fun comes with taking the bartender’s choice route. Had a truly delightful bitter orange gin cocktail, and a spicy cucumber and lime mezcal-based one (though it was missing a slit green chilli, subbed with hot sauce instead).

Remember to carry your ID- scans are not accepted.

My partner and I came in at around 7pm on a Tuesday evening. I'd heard about a waitlist that can last two hours, so I was happily surprised when we were able to get a spot almost immediately.

I got a drink off the daily menu, while my partner got a bartender's choice, and we were both very happy with what we got! The service was also lovely; folks came around multiple times to make sure we were having a good time.

And yeah, OKPB is on the expensive side, but not outside the norm for speakeasies in the area. I'm definitely looking forward to coming in again for a special occasion!

Had a great time — the kids behind the stick have great service etiquette and were contagiously passionate about their work. Shout-out Maria and Thomas for their excellent drinks, great banter, and generous recommendations about bars and restaurants in DC. Hope the owners here know what gems they have on their staff!

This cocktail bar is great. It has speak easy vibes. They have a bell to ring to be seated inside with minimal seats and a cozy vibe. You will want to get there at 5 when they open or you could be waiting for a while. The cocktails are on the higher side at $16 a piece but they are quality. We had a great experience with all of the staff, especially Thomas. If you’re looking for a great cocktail bar, this is your place. I highly recommend the amaretto sour! They can make a variety of drinks outside of the menu but there is a menu available that rotates and changes daily!

Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible but they do let you know that on their website!

OKPB is a true gem. Excellent, creative (but not fussy!) cocktails in a beautiful, hole in the wall space. A great neighborhood spot where you can have a nice drink with warm service that won’t break the bank. John (host and the owner) is thoughtful and kind — bar staff just as attentive! Don’t miss this spot!
