A bar in the basement of a five-star hotel. The atmosphere was good. When I went, there weren't enough seats for the number of people, but the staff moved the chairs and secured seats for the number of people. It's expensive, but that doesn't mean you can't drink it, and since it came with quite a bit of what we call appetizer in Japan, I don't think it's a problem if you just drink it without eating. The coasters placed at the seats have cartoon-like depictions of Democratic and Republican representatives and are very fun. I took it home as it looked like it would be a good souvenir.

Can’t wait to go back to DC to revisit a favorite place for cocktails and friendly service and conversation.

We were looking for a nice place to have a drink and found this bar on google maps. The place is very nice. We sat at the bar and were greeted right away. I had an old fashion and chicken wings, both were very good. Took home several of the coasters very cool. Highly recommend if you’re looking for the same.

The bar is great and has a good atmosphere. However, it can get quite busy. Cocktails and coasters are particularly special. We had to stand outside the door by the restrooms for about 30 mins hunting for tables. There is no waiting list, as tables are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The service and seclusion is worth every penny, and as far as DC landmark bars go there are very few I would even consider over Off the Record.

Wheelchair accessibility: Elevator access allows off of the main lobby for wheelchairs and strollers to the bar area (and restrooms).

We came in on Saturday night with a group of 7 and were able to get a nice table. However, it took over 40 minutes to get our drinks and they never brought snacks. Only 15 minutes after they brought our drinks, they told us that they needed the table for a reservation and they placed a reserved sign in front of one of us while we were still trying to enjoy our drinks. If you are going to charge $30 a drink, you need to offer better service.

Didn't eat but the drinks were good. Best thing about it is the ambience of course.

Great cocktails, and the political characters on the coasters are always fun! Quite expensive with cocktails $20+

Who doesn’t want to dine and grab a drink with the old and live history of politics in D.C. I highly recommend that you check this out and be careful, you might not leave 😀. There dumplings are really nice. They are paired with the garlic sauce that makes me want to steal the chef for just a little bit 😅

I had been to Off the Record years ago. The drinks were good, and the atmosphere is so fun. It’s tucked away inside the Hay Adams hotel. Unfortunately, when I came back for a visit, I couldn’t justify spending $25 on a cocktail.

I came here to check it out while some friends finished a tour. As a former bartender and current restaurant manager, I was thoroughly disappointed. I ordered one cocktail, which was not impressive at all, and with 20% tip the bill was over $40. At that price point I expect an expertly crafted cocktail, excellent service, and atmosphere that is top notch. This place delivers none of these things. Will never recommend this place.

Stopped for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Food and drinks were great, but really the atmosphere is where it's at.
