I went in for dinner last Friday and had a pretty good experience overall. The place has a relaxed vibe, nothing too fancy but comfortable enough to sit and talk for a while. I ordered the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes, and it came out hot and well seasoned. Portions were fair for the price. Our server checked in a couple times and kept our drinks filled, which I appreciated. It did take a little longer than expected for the food, but it wasn’t a big deal since we weren’t in a rush. Overall, it’s a solid spot if you’re looking for a dependable meal without a lot of fuss.

Great brunch spot after taking in a visit at the zoo. The place is easy to get to. Family friendly which makes it a great hang out

Disappointing service and food. Also a non-transparent tipping system. They add a 10% service fee without saying anything and when you are presented with the handheld digital payment device it doesn’t show the charges, just an option to leave an 18%, 20%, or 22% tip. Felt shady.

Good food and service

The workers were very nice, the stuffed French toast was the best French toast I've ever tried. Would highly recommend for a family or duo looking for breakfast / brunch.

Open City has a sneaky double tipping policy. They bring you a machine to pay your bill without giving you a printout to review. After asking for a tip and settling my bill, I realized I was overcharged. When questioned about it, the waitress then gave me a paper that said a “10%” service fee was added on for staff, but it wasn’t a tip. This should have been explained to me so the place didn’t get a 30% tip. They hide the service fee from you to get more money. I won’t be patronizing this dishonest business again.

Have been here several times with a fine result but this morning was exceptionally bad.
I understand it’s the day after a holiday, however, we waited 15+ minutes after being sat to get water and order food.
The fruit bowls served both had rotting fruit in them. The omelette had a rotted green pepper in it.
I will not be back any time soon.

Perfect place for a breakfast. Family friendly, but still a great place for two adults. Food was just what we needed to start the day (fruit granola & avocado toast). Service was attentive but not overbearing. 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

My wife and I have come to this establishment a few times…and although the service towards us hasn’t always been the warmest, the food is actually really good. However, today’s experience was absolutely awful. Normally when we come we have a bit of a wait to sit. So imagine our surprise when we were seated upon arrival immediately. But it’s all downhill from there. No one acknowledged us after we sat, no one said hello we will be with you in a minute, nothing. But not only did several waiters pass by us and IGNORED US after staring deadass in our faces (including the one that ended up begrudgingly serving us), but after we were seated SEVERAL OTHER FAMILIES were seated after us and immediately acknowledged and offered waters. It took my wife getting up from her seat and asking someone (who conveniently pretended not to speak English which was absolute chutzpah because we asked her about not being serviced prior and she clearly answered in English.) When we were FINALLY helped…the service was subpar. Our oj and chai tea was never brought out (we were told that the beverage center was busy); however, others around were brought their coffees and teas and on with no problem. We were the only black people in there in a restaurant full of white folks so it felt extremely deliberate. We will not be back.

Amazing find across from the Omni Shoreham. The burrito, hash brown, and huevos rancheros were outstanding. Great menu options, friendly staff, and very cool vibe.

This place has good food. Because of that, they become a repeat restaurant for me. However, the service is consistently poor.

This weekend after another round of poor service, they brought the check on a square pay tap machine without letting me view the check. They then prompted me to select a tip for 18-20%. I am always a person that tips 20%. But after this service, I decided to stand my ground and tipped 18%. I asked for a receipt, which showed me that they added an automatic 10% tip, on top of the 18%.

Adding an automatic tip and then prompting for additional tip (for a party of two, no less) without any notice or even showing the bill beforehand is tacky and misleading. This left a sour taste in my mouth to the point of likely not returning. Average DC dining experience.
