Open Crumb is a staple in my work and personal life. If I was forced to choose only one business to support I would have to pick Open Crumb. Chef Peter and his brothers are professional and customer service driven. The food is amazing! I pick up for lunch during the day, family dinners and when I use my own money to celebrate my team! Thank you Open Crumb!

I wanted to support an African restaurant in our neighborhood. I really did. I was so disappointed with the food handling here.
Out front there were flies and and mosquitos as the front door was open. I looked in the back and a lot of the food was sitting around uncovered and out in the open. There have to be flies back there as well. I hope that your team is able to get it together and have better practices for handling food moving forward. Perhaps the team needs some training?
I took my food and left, I don't think I will be eating it after what I saw.
Best fried chicken sandwich I’ve had. Order that and the fried plantains. The plantains reminded me of when my mom would fry plantains with a little brown sugar. Will bring my wife next time we are in DC.

I tried the Jollof rice the spicy chicken stew and the Mac and cheese. I was honestly disappointed. the rice wasn’t really flavorful (maybe it was the batch I got), the chicken stew had some flavor but the chicken itself was bland and the Mac and cheese was very liquidy and spilled every everywhere. I had high hopes but maybe this place just is not for me. It tasted a little better when I mixed the Mac with the rice.

Came a minute before they closed and they still accommodated me. Amazing service and the food was sooo good, tasted very fresh, and I love all of the vegetarian/vegan options! 10/10

I recently had an unfortunate dining experience at this restaurant. I ordered the ginger salmon meal with jollof rice and African stew, and I was deeply disappointed. The food was incredibly bland, with no hint of seasoning or salt. The salmon was overcooked and tough, with a burnt black skin. The rice was overcooked and too soft, lacking any flavor.
The only redeeming part of the meal was the lemonade, which was decent, but it hardly justified the $25 price tag for the meal. Hoping for a better end to the meal, I ordered the brown butter toffee cookies, which surprisingly were delicious.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place. Save your money and dine elsewhere.

So incredibly tasty. Definitely order ahead, they make everything from scratch so it does take ~30 min, but so worth it!!!
Vegetarian options: One of the best dishes is the vegan peanut soup

Customer service is nonexistent, I don’t know if the male that waited on me is neurodivergent, but I kept saying thank you while ordering and when he gave me my food. He just looked at me. I was the ONLY one in the establishment so a greeting, “hi, how are you” or a wave from the kitchen staff would go a long way. However, they just look mean with no emotions. But hey, at least the food is good.. ??♀️?

These people burnt my food after waiting for so long. The kitchen and restaurant is nasty. The food has zero flavor. The owners are RUDE!

I moved from NYC to DC and I brought my food snob attitude. Then I stumbled across Open Crumb and expectations were low. To my surprise, I had the best meal I've had all year (including NYC restaurants). The Red Red is a perfect blend of spices and balance between sweet and savory. I've taken food to other friends in DC and they loved the peanut soup with chicken (more like gravy than soup and good over rice). Don't overlook this DC gem!
