Good Coffee Near My Hotel We were staying at The Madison Hotel in May, and while I had a little coffee maker in my room, and the hotel had urns of coffee in the lobby, I wanted something more - something with character and body, and spotted the Peet’s at 1156 15th St NW, right there. Now, I can only recall having Peet’s coffee in New Orleans, but remembered it fondly - better than so very many other coffee shops. This location, did serve really good coffee, though maybe not quite what I remembered from New Orleans - a city well-known for its coffee. Once, the French Quarter, and what is now the Warehouse District, existed under a light cloud of roasting coffee, and along the Mississippi River, there were coffee warehouses in great abundance. The aroma of Peet’s took me back to those days, and to my youth, spent smelling the roasting beans. The coffee was well-worth my little search, and basically past pedestrian coffee in the hotel’s lobby. The shop is small, and has outside seating (with umbrellas for the Spring sun), and then the counter, coffee machines and a bit of a pastry-deli inside. The server was friendly, and the machine quick, and I grabbed one of the shaded seats outside - to be transported in my mind, back to New Orleans. Small, and probably not in the most trafficked area here, but well-worth the stop!
