Four stars for food only. Food was good and tasty. However definitely skip the Thai tea and passion fruit drinks. Where's the real boba tapioca pearls and real Thai tea? The Thai tea came pre stirred. It was overly sweet and lacked much tea flavor. Instead of the brown caramel tasting tapioca pearls, this drink came with clear mushy tapioca balls. At first glance we thought they forgot the boba and asked the waitress to add boba. She insisted those clear boba were it. My kids have had boba in many cities and many restaurants and this was the most disappointing. No establishment ever sells clear boba in their drinks. Even the food trucks on Constitution Avenue advertised boba tea with the standard brown tapioca balls. PhoDC79 really shouldn't put this item on the menu at all. The passion fruit tea was so sweet from the syrup we had to add ice water to it. Even after adding water it was still sweet. This restaurant makes you pay and tip upfront right after you place your order. I understand if we were ordering to go , but we were seated. This was our first time eating in a small DC restaurant so I'm not sure if this is a common practice now.

Excellent food. Almost as good as the food in little Saigon in Westminster California

Everything was fine till we order. The waiter (I believe the owner) took our order, a combination pho, a chicken vermicelli, a combination rice plate, a fired chicken over rice, 2 egg rolls, and a to go Thai tea with boba requested in to go cup. He requested to pay right away which was fine and I gave him the card. The bill was $59 something so I paid him, my bank notified me the charge. I didn’t pay attention on the bill to realize something was wrong. 5 minutes latter, he came back and said it did not go through which I show him my bank that the charge already took place. The lady behind the counter (which I believe his wife) kept refusing it that they didn’t charge regardless of what I was showing them the transaction. Well, I said it was ok. I would pay again and would dispute if they charged me twice. They came back with another check for $79 something (at that moment I realized it was something wrong with the bill). It seemed like they made a mistake on the first check, instead of telling us their mistake and asking us to fix the bill, they acted like the transaction didn’t go through. Theresa problem was my card and they have to recharge. That was not all. The Thai tea wasn’t in to go cup. The 2 egg rolls never came. When we almost finished our food and asked for the egg rolls, the waiter apologized and asked the kitchen to give it to us, but then his wife insisted that I had not ordered/paid for it, which I did order and the waiter did confirmed, but his wife was mad and kept insisting about the egg rolls. I told her I would pay for it. But to be honest, they were so messed up and really if I were her I would just give it to the customer as courtesy since they made the mistake. But they were really greedy insisting it. Bad business, bad customer service. I gave them $6 for the egg rolls on the way out and surprisingly his wife said “$5 is good enough”. What? You really wanted it so badly, so when I gave you $6 why you only take $5????? Keep that extra $1 so you can feel better making more profit.Bad service! Shame on you, shame on your business!

Update: the transaction did post on my account. I have to file a dispute. Pho 79 sucker.

One of the best pho places I've ever had. I just live their broth...full of body and flavor. Definitely will come again when I'm in town.

I was in Washington DC when I found a pho restaurant on Capitol Hill. The food was fantastic, and the staff were extremely friendly. I ordered the pho with everything in it, and was gifted a free egg roll with my meal. This pho restaurant also serves a variety of appetizers and other types of Vietnamese dishes, such as beef, chicken, or pork with rice or noodles. I will definitely be coming back to Pho79Dc. Just know that the interior is small, so there is limited seating. Also, parking in DC is a nightmare, and this restaurant does not have its own parking. Nonetheless, if you're on the Hill, give Pho79Dc a try, you won't regret it.

Bizarre experience. My friend and I ordered our food through QR code that was on the table. We were wondering why it was taking forever to receive our food. My friend checked his bank account to see there was pending transaction for the order he just placed but didn’t get text or email confirming his order. Waiter came over wondering if we order and we told her we did. She seemed to know this was reoccurring issue. She came back over to take our order again. He had paid again for our food. A few minutes later our food came but our boba we ordered never came. We asked another worker about our drinks. She came back with an order slip that shows we didnt order boba when we literally watched the waiter placed the order right in front of us. Most of the employees seem they don’t speak English. They look confused when you ask for simple request. Not sure why they have tips when the service wasn’t even up to par. I asked one of the workers if I can get to go box and she looked annoyed. Overall, over priced but the food was alright.I would not recommend ordering with the QR code! Also check out bank/credit company to make sure they don’t double charge you if you decide to go here.
