We’re visiting from Canada and Poplar was highlight of our vacation! Amazing service, wine and food! We can’t say enough about the hospitality, ambiance and welcome atmosphere! Poplar is a must!

Nice ambiance, first time. Dishes seem small for the price. One dish very spicy without warning, despite us asking the heat of other dishes previously. Sides unimpressive (couscous served with two separate dishes).

The vibe is incredible. And so is the food. This is a true family-run restaurant and I recommend it to all my friends.

This is such a gem of a restaurant that mixes a neighborhood vibe, exciting and new flavors, and outstanding service. My friend and I ordered the entire vegetarian menu and every bite was perfect and unique.

Such a cute and cozy place. Menu is always changing to features local, exotic, and/or seasonal ingredients. Beautiful recipes that have a Michelin star flare. Service is also exceptional.

One of the most unique dining experiences in the area and maybe even DC. Elevated but approachable. Feels like a friendly neighborhood spot and also a Michelin-star restaurant. Menu changes all the time which may be my biggest gripe as sometimes I wish the amazing dishes would stay. Wine selection and the oysters are a must! Will be back often!

Imagine that a restaurant with an inventive menu, superb (and surprising) ingredients, and a chill vibe got dropped into your local neighborhood — that's Poplar. Our group of four included a vegetarian, a non-lamb eater, and two eat-literally-everything types. Each of us had ample options to choose from off of not one but two menus, the chef's menu and the ever-changing weekly menu. The portion sizes skew smaller, so we ordered plenty from both menus. The experience was like a fancy tasting menu without the pretension and the eye-popping price tag, and with the ability to pick the dishes we wanted and leave off the ones we didn't. Excellent from start to finish, though I wish the panna cotta was a bit sweeter (or maybe that's my sweet tooth talking). The wines were lovely and well priced. Noise level was easy on the ears. Afterward, we visited Everyday Sundae for ice cream down the block, then drifted back to Poplar for a nightcap and some Chaka Khan on the record player. Highly recommend.

Just got back from my second visit to Poplar in 7 days and I am in love. The menu is always changing and reflects what’s truly in season. The chef and waiter forage for mushrooms and other delicious veg. What they can’t forage they buy local, very local. Last week the carrots were grown a couple blocks away. Dishes are finished with flowers from raised beds outside. The wine list is exciting and pairs so well with the food. I can’t wait for my next visit.

This is one of the most incredible dining experiences I’ve had in DC. The menu changes daily and I recently ordered the fish collar which was one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever eaten. I highly recommend eating at the bar and chatting with the staff to learn more about the food and restaurant. Much is foraged and sourced locally and the dishes are simple and delicious. So happy this place is here.

The owners are so warm and passionate and really doing something special here-- not just local, but locally foraged, ingredients, and exciting flavors you won't find anywhere else in the city. The menu changes every week which is fun, and they always have details about which dishes can accommodate dietary restrictions, which is much appreciated.
