First timers for our anniversary. Food was great. Service was terrific. They even gave us complimentary champaign and dessert for the occasion! But maybe not the place for true romantic dinner - noise level a bit too high for that.
This was my first time at Bar Chinois the Happy Hour menu and drinks were absolutely amazing! The staff was amazing 10/10 definitely coming back
First of all, our reservation was for 9:00 PM. We checked in around 8:35PM with the hostess. She said it would be closer to 9:00 but she would let me know. I sat and watched her sit other people walking in one after another as the empty tables were filling up. She finally asked me if I was a walk in as I stared at her. She sat us in our table at 9:20 PM. Food overall was rated good, because my least favorite item was the soup dumplings. My main was the duck, while it was well flavored I wasn't particularly fond of the texture as it was a little tough. The wontons were delicious. The stand out of the whole meal was the beef gyoza. The others in my party had the Char Siu Chicken rice and the Lu Rao Fan. Which both said it was just ok, nothing to brag about. The ambience was cool and trendy, I can see why it may be considered a hotspot. But it was extremely loud, not because of the music or anything like that. I found myself shouting so my party could hear me. My only other thing was the price, we got the reservation and sat down past the happy hour time special making the food over priced for what it was. I'd probably go spend my money and time elsewhere.
The food is amazing. Inside the atmosphere is dark, loud, and hot. They could do with some soft surfaces to help absorb sound and lamps on the tables. Not sure why it's so warm inside.
This place has a hip and cool vibe. The vibe indicates that the food will be amazing like the food at Astoria. BUT the food can be described best as not bad. But there's nothing at the restaurant that is earth shattering. It's above average dim sum
We came here to celebrate my dad's retirement and had a really nice dinner! The drinks and food were delicious and the service was excellent. Really appreciate how nice and helpful the hostess was. It was a great place to celebrate!
The garlic chives gao were awful. Genuinely one of the worst restaurant dishes I have ever put in my mouth. The chili wontons and pork xlb dumplings were just okay. Entrees were pretty good, I would stick to those!
Great food and service but the acoustics are extreme, it is very loud and difficult to have a 1:1 conversation. Tummy was happy but left with a headache.
We went to Bar Chinois for the bottomless dim sum. We've had countless dim sum experiences before but this one was the worst experience. Our waitress told us that for larger parties it's easier for her to bring out whatever food from the kitchen and then from there we could order more if we liked it. We came to order off the dim sum menu. Once we did ask how she thought about the breakfast fried rice that we hadn't received and she said that she didn't bring that one out because she thought it would “be too filling” and that she “doesn't like to waste food”. Out of the few items we were allowed to ordered ourselves, the breakfast fried rice, we received veggie fried rice instead. To top it off when she brought us our bill she said she did the math and it would have been cheaper if we ordered their bottomless mimosas (additional $20/pp)rather than our champagne and orange juice ($10/pp). They did not
We had a group of 9 here for a birthday party. They seemed extremely understaffed and we had to keep trying to get our waitress's attention for drinks/more food. The food was incredible, we just felt so guilty about how many tables our waitress was juggling. Additionally, though I confirmed multiple times that day they still had the wrong number of individuals for our party. A good spot for happy hour or just food at the bar. Perhaps just a busy night - but hopefully they staff up so there is not so much pressure on one waitress.
Restaurantji Recommends
I stopped in for a solo happy hour before an event and chose the half price MSG Martini and the dollar dumplings (pork) hit the spot! Had a reservation.
Best soup dumplings in the DMV🙌🏻 Gotta go for the bottomless Dim-Sum + Mimosa combo. Great ambiance, food & service. Definitely coming back😎
This restaurant came highly recommended but we found the food for average. It did have a fun ambiance.
Outstanding meal and service. All of the staff act like one big family. Great happy hour. Loved the $1 dumplings but the garlic noodles... WOW!
Best spot for Brunch the unlimited dimsum and mimosa are highly recommended. Dimsum were so good and legit! I'm asian and I can tell that it was made fresh and world class quality!
