Comfortable atmosphere and outstanding food. Our server offered detailed explanations of the various plates and was very helpful in assisting with our selections. A wonderful experience.

we had a lovely double date and the desserts are probably the best I ever had in DC for me. However we felt like the plate portion sizing could have been more clear. The beef kofta was delicious, well-seasoned and flavorful but we didn’t feel like it was shareable sizing for a table of 4, and the staff didn’t really say what’s the recommended number of plates for a party of 4. The pomegranate mocktail was amazing. Overall we would return!

This was our first time at Sababa. The decor is a great visual to the food we were about to enjoy. Our server Collette is a pro. Her confident and animated voice lets you know she's got you, and while listening to her talk about the menu, it brings to life the words you're reading.

We started with some drinks. The mockcocktails are more than OJ and cranberry. My Cradle of Civilization was the perfect seasonal alcoholic drink.

We ordered some small plates and a two beef kebabs plate. The kabob was seasoned and cooked to a great finish. It came with rice so two people can share. By the way, items come out as ready. Next we ordered the roasted eggplant which honestly is to die for. We also ordered the halumi cheese. Last we ordered the carrot salad. We didn't enjoy this as the acidicness was just to much. I didn't care for it, which doesn't mean someone else would like it. We mentioned this to Collette and it was quickly taken off our bill. Thank you!

For dessert we had the first choice on the dessert menu Konofi cake. But if you don't eat anything else at Sababa, you have to have this dessert.

We went here for our eighth anniversary and it did NOT disappoint. The service from Aiden, our server, was fantastic, but we also got excellent tips from the woman who sat us at the beginning. The food comes out as it is ready, and we thoroughly enjoyed ordering extra pita just so we could keep eating and enjoying the dips we had as our appetizer. My husband had the lamb kebab and we split the sea bass entree, but the cocktails were OUTSTANDING. We of course ordered a phenomenal dessert (caramel tart!) and received a complimentary glass of ginger ale for our anniversary to go with it (we had told them we didn’t want more alcohol since we were driving). The atmosphere was lovely, and the food made it utterly delightful. We can’t wait to go back!

The food was amazing, and the service was excellent. I didn’t get our servers name, but he really helped to make it a special evening. It was a birthday celebration, and once he learned that, he delivered on making it a special experience. He was even so thoughtful as to slyly ask me if the guest of honor drank alcohol (none of us has ordered any so that probably tipped him off to double check), and at the end of the meal brought us delicious Pomegranate mocktails to cheers with as a surprise treat! And an amazing desert (Dulce de Leche cheesecake)! We had an infant with us, and they were also very accommodating with that as well. 10/10 service from him and the rest of the staff, overall.

The staff also worked together to make sure our waters were always full, plates/utensils replaced when needed, and not in an overly hovering way that some places do. The food was excellent, I loved the schnitzel, and my family enjoyed the braised salmon, lamb kebobs, salmon kabobs, garlic broccoli, and the Saladin dip sampler (possibly the best part - the pita served with the dips/salads is so good).

Only cons: the main meals did come out at quite various different times, such as the chicken schnitzel coming out 5+ minutes before the next persons meal arrived, and longer before the last guests dish arrived. I assumed they just bring them out when they’re ready, instead of serving the table all at once, and not served at the same time. This wasn’t a big deal, just somewhat unusual. Luckily it was family, so no need to wait until everyone’s been served!! To be fair, I’d rather my food not sit under a heat lamp for a long time as the other dishes are being finished

Overall, we all really enjoyed the meal, the excellent, personalized service, and ambiance. Will be going back!

ok. it is a spiced basmati. you are breaking up. lamb and beef. phone signal is whacky. since 2005 stopped eating basmati. looks like regular cheap boxed crustacean goya yellow rice. you can try it if you would like. the restaurant we now know is semi kosher and you have your options it is closer to halal, the working phone is catty. more liquidy meat low cut quality for this is definitely closer to halal, but the google picture is a lie.

The roasted carrot salad was a nice mix of sweet, savory, and herbal, with just a touch of heat on the finish. The generously portioned lamb shank with couscous and veggies was damn near transcendant, flavorful, layered, tender, no knife needed. Oscar and Sara were perfect as server and host respectfully, attentive, friendly, and informative, yet never intrusive, seeming to only appear when I had a need or a question, I'm convinced they possess psychic powers, intuition can only explain so much. The strawberry mahalabia, a custard adorned with said fruit and syrup with a hint of rose made a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Kudos to all involved.
