ok. it is a spiced basmati. you are breaking up. lamb and beef. phone signal is whacky. since 2005 stopped eating basmati. looks like regular cheap boxed crustacean goya yellow rice. you can try it if you would like. the restaurant we now know is semi kosher and you have your options it is closer to halal, the working phone is catty. more liquidy meat low cut quality for this is definitely closer to halal, but the google picture is a lie.

Lovely private room upstairs! They were able to accommodate my gluten allergy. Very fresh ingredients. Helpful and responsive staff.

Extremely rude workers, bugs on the ground, and I got food poisoning.

The roasted carrot salad was a nice mix of sweet, savory, and herbal, with just a touch of heat on the finish. The generously portioned lamb shank with couscous and veggies was damn near transcendant, flavorful, layered, tender, no knife needed. Oscar and Sara were perfect as server and host respectfully, attentive, friendly, and informative, yet never intrusive, seeming to only appear when I had a need or a question, I'm convinced they possess psychic powers, intuition can only explain so much. The strawberry mahalabia, a custard adorned with said fruit and syrup with a hint of rose made a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Kudos to all involved.

We love the hummus platter and great selection of cocktails and wines. We love it as much as it's next door neighbor!

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the place was bustling when we got in. The service was incredible- very attentive and helpful! All of their dishes are meant to be shared, and everything was good. We got the eggplant, the broccoli, and the lamb shank.

I was recently in from Chicago, and this restaurant is missing in Chicago food scene.
Sababa is pure joy. From the first warm greeting to the final bite of dessert, it felt like I was being welcomed into someone’s home, a home filled with laughter, incredible food, and the aroma of spice and fire.
The flavors here are alive vibrant, soulful, and rooted in tradition. The hummus was silky and bold, the grilled meats and vegetables perfectly charred, and every dish felt both comforting and exciting. Chef Ryan deserves serious praise, his menu balances heritage and innovation in a way that feels effortless, but clearly reflects a deep understanding of Israeli cuisine and a true passion for sharing it.
And then there’s Sara, the heartbeat of the dining room. As general manager, she leads with calm confidence and warmth. Her presence elevates the experience, gracious, attentive, and always with a personal touch that makes you feel seen and welcome.
Sababa isn’t just a meal, it’s a moment. A beautiful celebration of flavor, hospitality, and heart. I can't wait to return.

Everything tasted spot on with the seasoning and I could taste that the salads were made with high quality and not just things thrown together for the heck of it. I didn't even need to add any salt or pepper or any kind of spice since everything was perfectly put together. Even the pita was seasoned with za'atar. If you love the restaurant Zahav then you will not be disappointed by Sababa!

Slightly overpriced. The atmosphere is nice, but for a Mediterranean kitchen, it lacks spices. Limited vegan options.

Loads of pretentious energy here. Pitiful portion sizing - especially when considering the bloated price point

I had a wonderful experience dining at Sababa! The atmosphere was warm, the food was delicious, and everything was well-prepared and fresh.
I especially want to recognize Aden for his exceptional service. He went above and beyond to make sure our table was taken care of — attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. It’s rare to come across someone who clearly takes pride in their work, and Aden made our visit truly memorable.
As a mother, I will say that his mother should be very proud.
Thank you to the entire team, and an extra thank you to Aden for his hard work and hospitality. I’ll definitely be coming back!
