If you have to go to a supermarket in the US, it's definitely Safeway. They sell everything. A place where you can buy food ingredients and daily necessities.
I love going to the Safeway all the time I get good deals with them and they have good people working there
This was our first time shopping at Safeway after moving from out of town, but the cashier wouldn't help us sign up for the loyalty program so we had to pay full price for everything. We won't be shopping at this very unfriendly store again.
EDIT: You had your one chance to get this right the first time we visited. We've discovered other convenient grocery stores that don't resemble dystopian armed camps, so will be shopping at those and not Safeway.
You can find the fine an fresh stuff here?
W?W!!! Safeway has great reductions. Especially on few item's that are several days old. Young lady was kind enough make the correction on all my food items. GREAT JOB ?
Been coming here for years, but I don't know anymore. All I needed was a hand basket for my groceries. Couldn't find any then lady at customer service was rude
Has everything you need, but you gotta find it yourself. There is a lot of convenience because it is near the metro and around a lot of apartments. In terms of safety they have guards and free parking in the side, so overall its a decent spot
Filthy store, lazy staff cannot be bothered to stop complaining long enough to help customers.
If you want to get high, just join the security guards in their cars in the garage.
Did I mention getting harassed by the staff for having more than fifteen items going through the self checkout when there were no cashiers working any of the other checkout lanes?
This is the 2nd time I’ve ordered groceries from this store and was sent bad food. Mold is literally right there its no way yall are selling this food
They have a rats

In the past couple months, this location has become really unpleasant to shop at. It's worth walking further to shop somewhere else.
The store is extremely understaffed, and the few folks working are rude. The newly installed loss prevention measures (gated entry, security, having to scan receipt to leave) make it a hassle to get in and out quickly, especially at high traffic times.
Self checkout is now only available for <15 items, but there's only ever 1-2 normal lanes open. Checkers don't bag your items and get annoyed if you don't bag fast enough.
It's just generally a bad experience, and I'll be changing my grocery store.
The store at 490 L street Nw in Washington DC I’ve just had a horrible experience I won’t soon forget. I’ve shopped there for over 8 years I couldn’t believe I was stopped in the middle of using the self checkout as there was 8 open lanes and told I couldn’t continue to checkout there. I already had scanned a bag full of groceries and there was only 2 manned checkout lanes open with long lines at the time. I was told due to theft they were now enforcing 15 items or less which they haven’t done in the 8 years I’ve shopped there. That’s fine to do so, but there were 15 unmanned cashier lanes closed at peak time on a Saturday afternoon. So to not permit anyone in the self checkout lanes is insane. Moreover to let me proceed to check out in the self checkout lane for several minutes and then be stopped and pulled out of doing so was both astonishing and embarrassing. I spend hundreds of dollars each week at that store but no more. The managers were clearly following orders to not let anyone use self checkout, but this implementation to yank customers out of the middle of a transaction is insane, especially since the new security gate has been installed and you already need to scan a receipt to exit. I have been a loyal customer and not who you should be targeting to crack down on theft. Very disappointed.
In the time it takes to check out I could've walked across town to someplace better. Too many unused registers!
I wrote that more than a year ago. Now they have more registers open. Still nowhere near all of them but much better. And better shoplifting prevention. Up from 2 stars to 3. With a better selection of healthy, fresh food they can improve some more.
recently they blocked off most of the exit paths with solid metal bar fencing, & make you go thru a checkout line with gates, I guess for anti theft -- but if you're just going to the pharmacy then you have no way to exit except thru the alarmed gates or a line.... probably a huge fire hazard too, to funnel people like that. also means there are less paths INTO the store
in addition,
- often entire sections of things will be out of stock
- sometimes things will be *wrongly* stocked, i.e., a product will be missing with a neighboring similar product taking its labeled space
- never has enough lanes open, usually only 1 or 2 with backed up lines down the aisles. once I went & there literally were zero lanes open (maybe this is why they have a theft problem? if you have more guards than actual staff, then how are people supposed to pay in a timely manner)
- sometimes literally has meat that's past the expiration date
I don’t blame those people who work here or the managers, but clearly someone up in corporate has cut their staffing to the bone.
while I was listening to a cake decorating advertisement over the loudspeaker. I was talking to the fifth person who wasn’t sure if I could order a single plain vanilla cake, I spent 25 minutes on this fools errand and now I’m headed to the giant.
wish me luck.
