Some of the best soul food that you can get, I am a Native Chicagoan that relocated to D.C. from Mississippi. I wish I would have visited this place when I first relocated. I visit 3 times a week (yes 3 times a week).

The service was slow, but the staff was friendly. I didn't like feeling rushed because I wanted to see the food before choosing. You are not directly in front of the food, and they ask what meat and sides. I had the smothered pork chop which was barely seasoned along with the gravy being light and not flavorful. The mashed potatoes were instant and gravy was bland. The cabbage had no meant in it and tasted like it was boiled with no seasonings. The sweet tea was good and the cornbread was legit. My family is from the deep south so I am familiar with soul food. I will go again to support a black business but hope improvements are made. It just taste like it was cooked for those with high blood pressure. To be fair most food in DC is mid at best.

This place is a hit or miss. The candied yams along with the macaroni and cheese tasted old. The only reason why people frequently visit this place is because the amount of food they give you. The quality has gone down hill. If you prefer quantity over quality, this is the place for you.

The food was amazing! One dinner plate was more than enough for the two of us (girls) and we even had leftovers. Great value for the price, and the ladies working there were incredibly sweet and welcoming. Highly recommend!

The food is good but some of those elderly church are rude but I remain polite.
There was a day when I wanted to fire one of them up but I couldn't because it was apart of the church. But outside is a different story.

While I totally stood out from the crowd of customers, it felt like I was welcomed into another persons home for a good hearty meal.

I was fortunate to get there when the line was a few folks behind the food stations as I’ve been told the line can go out the door. They switch some of the menu items up daily as well, but generally keep it the same for certain items. You can taste the food is made with love.

The line staff are the best and almost all, or all, are volunteers. They won’t take no sass, but will gladly dish out their sass as if it’s candy on Halloween. They make you feel like you’ve been there 1000x times before even if it’s your first.

One thing that I wasn’t ready for was when I finished eating - the staff will come by and clean up your area. I was looking around for a long moment before someone stopped me and filled me in.

While I only went here once during my DC visit, I’m eager to visit again when I come back! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for soul food, are on a budget, and want to feel like you’re at home despite being far away from it.
