We couldn’t resist! Everything was delicious and unique! My son’s favorite was the strawberry cream filled pastry and mine are the black sesame bun (not pictured, devoured) and the tahini cookie AND the truffle and ham pastry. Parking at the National Building Museum where their pop-up is was easy! Seriously, you’ve GOT to give their pastries a try!

SakuSaku Flakerie at the Cleveland Park storefront is a charming bakery known for its Japanese-inspired treats. Customers appreciate the friendly staff and the variety of tasty pastries, including the unique strawberry lychee rose cruffin, black sesame kouign amann, and miso salmon quiche. The bakery offers delicious, fresh, and creative pastries with an Asian twist, like the cinnamon mochi roll, which some find a little pricey but worth it. The menu changes with the seasons, introducing new flavors to try, such as the seasonal passion fruit croffin praised for its perfect balance of tartness and sweetness. The bakery also serves drinks like the authentic matcha, with some customers enjoying watching it being whisked, and the hojicha latte, valued for its earthy flavor. The tamago sandwich remains a rare delight in Washington, D.C., though some feel it could be larger and creamier. The small space has no seating inside, but there is a lovely garden courtyard nearby, providing a picturesque spot to enjoy pastries. Customers mention the back patio with plenty of shaded tables, perfect for relaxing with a pastry or drink. Overall, while the pastries are imaginative and made with quality ingredients, some find them lacking the flaky, buttery texture they prefer in croissants. The bakery’s coffee stands out as a highlight, making it a worthwhile visit for those seeking something new and charming.
