Did you ever keep going back to a restaurant for one dish that has become part of your very being? Sal's chicken piccata is one of those. I enjoy the homey feel of this neighborhood restaurant, but no other dish has grabbed me and the wine is lamentable. Still we keep going back for this comfort food - several large cutlets over a heap of perfectly cooked spaghetti, every time.

So I’m rating this today, 4/6/22 based upon the pizza I purchased for lunch. I’ve never noticed this place prior to COVID so I wanted to try it out after returning to the office. I saw that they offered “NY Style Pizza” so while being skeptical about getting that NY quality in DC, I wanted to try it. Unfortunately the quality and service was lacking and there’s clearly room for improvement…if they care to improve.1. Pizza quality. Not great. Flavors are mild at best and nothing screams deliciousness. I got a pepperoni and sausage pizza slice and buffalo chicken pizza slice. They use lower quality pre-cubed sausage pieces you’d find at a school cafeteria and in the frozen food section in the grocery store instead of actual cooked fresh ground sausage. That took away from the flavor immediately. The slice was also way too sauced, and the sauce didn’t have much flavor. The buffalo chicken pizza was similar, where the chicken clearly wasn’t fresh and seemed like it was some bagged Tyson’s cubed chicken put on top of a pizza. The buffalo sauce had no flavor and the other sauce (blue cheese? Ranch?) also lacked flavor enough so I couldn’t tell what it was. Additionally a buffalo chicken pizza shouldn’t have a tomato sauce base and if it does, it should be MUCH less so the tomato doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the flavors. Suffice to say, this was also over sauced which led to the next issue. Each slice was gloopy and soggy. This could have been mitigated by allowing the reheating of the slice to crisp up the dough, but the 30 seconds they heated up the slice (yea, 30 seconds was it. Didn’t do much either) was clearly not enough time to mitigate the soggy dough. Thusly, the pizza slices did not hold together and sagged very sadly when eaten. The only redeeming thing was the crust which did have a little flavor and was crispy. Somehow that didn’t translate to the rest of the slice. If they reheated the slices for like 3-5 minutes (at least) you’d have a better experience and an actually hot slice of pizza.2. Customer service. Not entirely terrible but I must have told the dude I wanted the pepperoni and sausage slice at least 5 times before he got it. Checkout also wanted to charge me for a drink but I told them no since I didn’t have one (if two slices and a drink was a special they didn’t inform me of that). All in all if you want pizza in a pinch the slices they offer are edible, but honestly I’d order dominos over this place.

We visited MLK wkend 2022(family of 5). All nearby restaurants & food trucks were closed(not sure if this was due to a small amt of snow forecasted)?! Quiznos & 2 sisters deli closed. Didnt want any more McD’s! This place was GREAT! Super nice staff. Nice large slices of pizza! Good salads & baklava!! Highly recommended!

Old European style food and very filling large portions and great for sharing if you are on a budget. They have Chicken that is baked in real time and the food is outstanding

Not so impressed. Very slow service.

I'd call it Middle Eastern fajitas--grilled beef or chicken with onions, veggies, tomato, dressing in a thick wrap. Loved every gooey bite. But $7 for a 12 oz domestic beer?

I would not buy anything but canned drinks from this guy again. I had chicken shawarma on a Pita and the only really edible thing was the pita. All the vegetables tasted a few days old and the sauce was pretty gross and laid on thick to cover up the age of the ingredients. We only went here because everything else was closed.

Got chicken shawarma, a lamb gyro, a salmon salad and penne pasta. Read a lot of the 1 star reviews after we ordered. The order was a little slow, but they guy behind the counter was friendly, very informative, and made my order as I wanted it. If it was a little faster I would have given 5 stars, but overall it was a great experience.

The place where you can go for a quick bite if everything is closed. The food is ok when you are very hungry.

The food is mixed bag. Pizza is pretty good but the rest, especially pasta and chicken you may want to avoid. Also the overall prices are pretty high considering the food - lunch with pita, drink and chips will set you for $12-14. The cafe is on C street SW between 4th and 6th streets. Capitol Plaza is just 5 minutes walk and it has much better choices for the same price (mainly Rice bar and Vile Dr France cafe)

This was the WORST falafel pita I've ever had. As far as I can tell, this place has NO redeeming qualities. The service was slow and unfriendly, and the food was expensive. The interior was ugly, and the seats uncomfortable. Even the bathroom was out of order. Would give ZERO stars if I could. Avoid this place like the plague!!!
