The servers were great. The food, excellent. The atmosphere was beautiful. the only problem I had was with the, too loud for me, background music.

San Matteo is such a neighborhood gem, with consistently stellar food and service. I always order one of the house-made pastas and end with the tiramisu and chocolate lava cake. The servers are warm and attentive-- shout out to Carolina who was so friendly and extremely accommodating of our picky eater's needs!

Man I hate to do this but this was really, really rough. Biggest complaint is the lamb isn’t a cut of lamb, it’s a bunch of pre-cooked shredded meat that’s burnt and then put into a rectangle shape. If you order wine by the glass they’ll give you something that clearly been open a few days. No wait for a table but it took 20 minutes for a waiter to come by.

I almost never write reviews, but this place is fabulous, especially for the money. Sure you can get better service and better plating aesthetic at Michelin star places, but I challenge you to find better italian flavor and atmosphere at this price in this city.

Wowwww so amazing. Delectable agnolotti with the perfect light lemon zest and my husband had the gnocchi dish but swapped in gluten free pasta and it was also delicious with yummy sun-dried tomato flavor shining. The affogato for dessert was heavenly. 5 stars all around you won’t regret it.

Absolute gem of a restaurant. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, food was unbelievably delicious and the wine menu was thoughtful and interesting. The whole experience felt elevated without any hint of pretentious. Love this place, excited to go back.

Nice atmosphere though I didn't prefer the modern music, but it was fine. Friendly service. Good bread. Good entrees. Amazing tiramisu. Reminds of Al Volo in Adams Morgan which is also excellent.

Three of us dropped in late on a Monday, not many patrons. 10/10. Very solid wine recommendations and the food was stellar. Octopus was perfect. Meatballs/polenta were delicious. The main plates, new york, butternut carbonara, etc. were each really tasty. Our waitress doubled as the bartender (caro I think was her name), which led to some nice limoncello. One of the best italian spots in the city and no one knows about it!

What a gem! I don’t understand why this place wasn’t packed…great food, charming and comfortable atmosphere and terrific and friendly service. Really great pescatarian options - the fritto misto was just about perfect and I enjoyed the seafood manicotti. Wouldn’t have changed a thing, except somehow saving room for dessert which we didn’t order. Can’t wait to come back!

Food was yummy and portions were actually fair (rare in DC these days). The pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly al-dente. My only complaint was they were playing 1990's techno the whole time which wasn't the vibe. Other than that, I'd come back.

Delicious food, especially the lasagna! Order it, you will not regret it. The owner is also very professional, charismatic, and friendly. It is clear that he cares a lot about customer experience.

They have a front section with more moody, date night, vibes and ambience, and a huge lovely back section with large windows, plants and an airy atmosphere.

The food is a five out of five and visually the place is gorgeous, but they definitely could improve the auditory elements. In the front, they are often playing weird pop and techno music extremely loudly even in the evening, which clashes with the sophisticated dinner aesthetic and makes it hard to have conversations

The back section of the restaurant could definitely use some soundproofing, as it is a huge space, surrounded by windows, and the sound just echoes and bounces all around, making it hard to hear one another at a normal conversation volume when there are others also sitting and talking in the space.

Last thing, I came here with a friend with celiac disease, and they were able to provide her with gluten-free pasta and accommodate her dietary needs, so that was great

The interior design of the restaurant is very well done. I ordered pick up. My first time eating at this place. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the pappardelle fungi that I ordered. It was very bland. The flavor was very odd. And I could not taste any white wine in the sauce, as listed in the menu. The amount of ricotta salata on the dish was maybe equal to a couple of teaspoons.

Great brunch with a large-ish group with kids. Espresso martini was on point. Would definitely come again.
