Very cognizant of when to put orders in so our dishes were brought to the table in waves. The food was fantastic. We tried the pork belly,Our server provided great suggestions

We were so pleasantly surprised by the tasting meal. It gave us so many different flavors and chances to try things we may not have ordered on our own. It was our anniversary and we were visiting from New York and they went out of their way to make the whole night special. The manager and our waiter were so kind and really made us feel comfortable and welcome. Amazing meal.

first time eating Ethiopian food the lentils were delicious the spices were perfect all the food was cooked to perfection. The lamb was delicious. I enjoyed drinking the Ethiopian beers. The ambiance of the place was charming and the server was very helpful and everything could not have been better.

Great Ethiopian restaurant, authentic food. Portions are a tiny tad too small but enough if you don’t eat too much. Will be back when it reopens.

What a wonderful experience. We made a reservation about an hour before and the tables were ready and reserved for us when we got there. Half of our party hadn't arrived but they gave us no issues and seated us while we waited. When the rest of our party, they accommodated us and made us feel very comfortable even though we had a lot of kids. The food was amazing. Some of the best kitfo I've ever had. We were there for a while and they never once hassled us. They were very friendly and engaged us in conversation and we're great with the kids. We will definitely be back here for Ethiopian food when we're back in DC, and will definitely be suggesting this to friends coming to DC.

Food great. Saturday night. Only 2 tables filled. They should create a drink menu with signature drinks. Oh well. Other than that, good.

Order was cancelled for no apparent reason other than the fact that the restaurant was closing in an hour. Thanks

We've lived in dc for years and have never tried Ethiopian food. Luckily yelp came through for us! Shebelle is a touch quiet but the staff were so incredibly friendly and the food was absolutely incredible. We ordered the Veggie Combo and the shebelle beef tibs, as recommended by others. I seriously couldn't stop eating. Highlight on the Veggie Combo were the Red Lentils, I think they're called Misir Wot, not sure. The beef was phenomenal and my fiancé and I literally fought over the last few pieces. Anyway, whoever is looking for super delicious Ethiopian food should definitely give Shebelle a try! We will definitely be coming back.

At first I accidentally went to the African restaurant in the basement which was jam packed with Black folks. This restaurant is actually upstairs. When I came in, the restaurant was near empty on a Sunday evening which I found odd. That was probably my clue that I should have headed back downstairs. Not sure why this place is 5 stars? I've been to much better Ethiopian restaurants in the DMV. It's not bad. It's just not as tasty as other Ethiopian restaurants I've been to in the area. I ordered the Vegetarian Sampler and the Fish Dullet. The good: The food is very fresh. Bread is good. The side salad was crisp and fresh as if they made it just for me. The fish dullet comes in big chunks which is different and MUCH BETTER than how other places prepare it. The portions are nice. The not so great: Overall I found the flavor in both dishes to be lacking. I almost feel like they toned down the big flavors to cater to the surrounding gentrified neighborhood members who may not be able to tolerate strong or spicy flavor. Even the lentils in the vegetarian platter were a bit bland; and that's usually my favorite dish. I've never had bland lentils in ANY Ethiopian restaurant so naturally this was very disappointing. Not to mention all of this was pretty pricey. If you like heavy flavor and strong spice in your food this may not be the place for you. I usually have a rule about "wasting" my daily calorie allotment on food I dont thoroughly enjoy. This would have qualified as food to give away if I hadn't been so hungry with nothing else at home to eat. Otherwise the place is clean and the service was good.

I didn't mention that I am a pescatarian and I got the all veggie meal but instead we got meat with our food and I almost ate chicken.
