Love St. Anselm! The ambiance is very relaxed, a good place to go for any occasion.
Those biscuits with pimento cheese, the crab deviled eggs, and steaks - I dream about them.
Went with a friend on a Friday afternoon; we were immediately seated (we did have reservations). The restaurant did get incredibly busy at one point, and our server apologized for it, but to be honest, I never felt neglected. I also saw that everyone worked as a team to help one another.
We started with the Buttermilk Biscuits and Pimento Cheese, Blue Crab Deviled Eggs, and the Beet & Ricotta salad. All of these were incredibly tasty; I had to be careful not to finish them all so I could save room for the steak.
For our steaks, we ordered the Butcher Steak (hangar steak) and Ribeye. Both were amazing and cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the hangar steak the most.
For dessert, we ordered the Carrot Cake and Chocolate Cake. We shared a bite of each. Both were phenomenal and perfectly balanced.
I highly recommend!

Flavorless food yet appetizing ambiance. Upon walking in you’re greeted by a wonderful staff and decor. Wait time was long but we managed to snag a bar seat. Service there was fantastic.
We started off with the biscuits which was, unfortunately, the best item I had that evening. I had ordered by far one of the worst steaks I’ve had in DC area, the butchers steak, accompanied by a side of broccoli. I’ve had more flavor out of a Golden Corral steak than the steak here. Maybe they left out the garlic butter in the steak I ordered? It was seared a bit too long which made it rather an unpleasant eating experience overall. Just tasteless and charred despite its appearance. The side of broccoli had a similar experience. The charred edges made the broccoli difficult to enjoy.
Overall, big let down but I’d try it again one day as some menu item names were appealing to me. Rather pricey for what I experienced. No intentions of going back at the moment.
Sidenote: The chicken pictured was of the person I was with meal. He found it to be just “ok”.

Went to St. Anselm for Thanksgiving / Engagement Celebration with a party of 4 and had a great time! The biscuits and pimento cheese are worth the hype for sure. We got a whole array of food and all of it was amazing! We got the pecan pie and chocolate cake for dessert, which was great as well. The server was attentive and gave us a complimentary dessert wine to celebrate our engagement!
We did get seated in what seemed to be the room with the most kids running around, so that impacted the experience a bit. But overall a great time and will definitely be back in the future!

TLDR: overpriced, bad to mediocre food, small portions.
Went to brunch here about six years ago. Ordered a breakfast plate and latte and was very underwhelmed. The portion was small and nothing special. The latte came in a tiny teacup. It was literally about four sips and looked like it had been sitting around for ages.
Over the years, some friends have raved about the restaurant so we decided to give it a try for their Thanksgiving meal.
Again, super disappointing. The turkey platter was nearly $50 each with very small portions for the meat, gravy, and cranberry. The turkey was fine; nothing stand out. I also ordered the sausage stuffing. It was almost inedible because it was so salty and had a weird texture (very mushy). The apple crumble was good, but there was barely a layer of apples.
Maybe l’ll try it try it again in another six years…

Okay but I don't think the food is worth the price they charge
I loved everything about my experience at St.Anselm from the moment I stepped in the door.
The hostess was welcoming and quickly seated us. Our server Abigail was amazing and friendly and checked on us fairly often throughout the evening. She knew that we were celebrating a special occasion and made it even more special without going overboard as the person being celebrated was a bit introverted. The food was as amazing as the service and I loved the fact that I basically had another meal left over to bring home. I will definitely be returning to dine there again.

Had the best lunch here today. The beet salad was excellent and light. Also had the Poncha cocktail which was delicious. The server was very friendly and attentive. The place is so cozy - I'd love to come back at night and get a steak and some red wine or whiskey cocktail!

Great food but the service was really slow. That may have been because it was a party of 7. Nonetheless, we sat down at 7:40ish and didn't finish until almost 11. That said the service interactions were fine when they did happen. I would absolutely go back. The ribeye was perfect cooked!

I love this place. A relaxing atmosphere, warm and friendly staff. They have a great brunch and buscuits with pimento cheese is delicious.
This visit was for lunch, I had a chicken sandwich with steak fries and my friend had a fried bologna sandwich with a side salad. Both sandwiches were really good. After asking for the check our waiter brought us a tablespoon serving of rainbow sherbet. I'm not sure what prompted this, another reason why I love this place.

We’ve eaten outside at St. Anselm’s several times and it’s been a great experience. The service is attentive but not obtrusive. The kitchen is known for its steak, but we opted for fish. Both the dorade and the trout were nicely prepared and presented. The kitchen really shines in its imaginative use of vegetables. The grilled okra is tender and tasty but somewhat overwhelmed by the spicy dip. The dorade is served with pickled cherry tomatoes that are a great complement to the fish. The trout is accompanied by a fennel cabbage slaw that elevates the dish. I was a little disappointed that the draft beers are offered only in a 9.5 ounce size but full size cost. Overall the menu leans toward the indulgent so be prepared if you normally eat light. The private patio stalls outside are a great alternative if you want to avoid the crowded dining room.
