Really great food, with nothing coming close to the taste. However the restaurant has been closed for awhile and he’s still available but prices are too high.

I ordered jollof with chicken and egusi soup with beef. The Jollof was pretty tasty. However the Egusi soup was TERRIBLE. It smelled rancid and old. I could not even eat it because it smelled so bad. And it was very expensive. I called the owner and told him it didn’t smell too good and the first bite was terrible, he told me no one ever complained about it before. If you’re looking for good and fresh food this is not it.

I've a customer for more 15 years, and I have taken family friends and clients of mine to eat there. Very hospital and their like family. I love the Crocker fish with the tomato sauce, potato leaf, and the cusava. I was introduced to ginger beer at this very place and drink this healthy mix til this day. I miss going there

I remember enjoying their food when I lived in N.W. everything was delicious! Sumah and his wife Amara was always professional and friendly. I’ve read the reviews and it says they’re taking orders and the pick up location is Bowie,MD. As much as I love their cooking, I’m going to pass on that one. I’ll wait until the original location on 7th st. to reopen. I’m going order everything on the menu! Sending my prayers to the family.??❤️

The food was so delicious it made my soul smile? I ordered the okra soup, fufu, palm butter and cassava leaf. It was so fresh and flavorful, thanks Sumah for such a great experience. I will definitely eat here every time I visit DC.

Hello, I've read other reviews. However, I'm shocked because I've had nothing but excellent customer service since the actual physical restaurant has been burned down. He delivers from his home to a special location in Bowie. The egusi, cassava leaf and peanut soup is to die for! Mr. Sumah is the best and has a great personality. He's a wonderful man and provides excellent customer service. He communicates well and caters to all your needs. I remember one time it was very late and I asked him to make some egusi twice on different occasions because my boyfriend was craving for it. He came on demand. Great prices great quality food and even better customer service! We love him!! Long live Sumah's business

OMG! I truly believe that Sumah's has the BEST CASSAVA AND PEANUT SOUP in all of America! The meat is always tender no matter if it's beef, chicken or fish. Food isn't too spicy, just enough kick! Peanut soup is smooth and very tasty. The cassava is always moist, soft and seasoned. I've never had a bad meal from them and I've been going to them for 5 years! Their restaurant is closed in DC but he does still sell from from his home. You'll have to meet him near a shopping center in MD! My fiancé and I travel 15 miles for the food, that's how DELICIOUS it is! Thank you Sumah! Much love!!

I love Sumahs, the food is amazing but as of lately I haven't been able to get in contact with him. Does anyone know if he's STILL delivering food or if he's changed his number?

I have lived and worked in Africa for 23 years and was desperate for some authentic West African cuisine. After trying most in central D.C., I read reviews about Sumah and was excited only to find that the restaurant was closed due to a fire. I also learned that the owners were preparing food for collection in Bowie, MD. So, I drove there. All I can say is that it was ABSOLUTELY worth the drive. I cannot wait for the restaurant to re-open. But if you need to eat really really delicious and authentic West African Food now - look no further. It is actually addictive - I can tell already. I found my spot.

Please accept this review as a warning. I've enjoyed the Sumah's food for years to include prior to the fire. Mrs. Sumah is an absolute gem. Unfortunately, Mr. Sumah is mostly quite the opposite. Since the fire, I've met him or a family member in the Bowie Home Depot's (Lottsford) parking lot. Early on I realized his prices were inconsistent and if Mr. Sumah was making the delivery, he was typically an hour late. Most recently I was quoted the price for my order. Mr. Sumah arrived extremely late (no surprise there) and proceeds to provide an order to another customer who had just pulled up (interesting...). Eventually, he brings me my order and I hand him the exact amount due - in cash. He asks how much did I give him (why not count it...side-eye) and I respond, it is the amount you told me. He then tells me I owe him an additional $4, because the price of my entire order wasn't included in the quote. Really??? The original price quoted was actually more than it should've been. When/if the actual business reopens, I'll consider patronizing. In the meantime, I'm done because the food isn't worth the frustration or the insults.

The best African food I've had in a while. This will officially be my new spot. The egusi was seasoned so well!
