The food was great, buttermilk fried chicken and the pecan pie were my highlights. There was a 15 min wait to enter but food was served quickly when you get through the doors (cafeteria style). Priced a little on the higher end but worth supporting the Smithsonian and the minority-owned business!
I’ll admit I was surprised the food was as good as it was. Portions are large. The food is a bit expensive, but I suppose because it’s in the museum, it is what it is. Good enough to be its own restaurant without the museum, definitely stop and try some of the food while you are here, you will not be disappointed.
We loved it here! It was just a really great experience and you can tell it's very intentional. The seating is family style so you are probably going to sit with some strangers and make friends, but I think that's the whole point. Don't forget to step out and go to the historical exhibit right outside. It's powerful and it ties the entire experience together.
