Such a superb dining experience. I was solo so sat at bar and my waiter went above and beyond with exceptional wine and food knowledge and service. The food was subtle, creative and beautifully balanced. Everything just worked. I find US restaurants rarely have ambiance but Tail Up had great lighting even if dining room was fine but unremarkable. It was a brilliant experience of a brilliant kitchen, sommelier and serving team. Thanks for a DC highlight

Food and wine was OK, but for sure extremely overpriced. We don't think it's anything near mediterranean. For service, the serving person kept setting our utensils on our left hand side when none of us are left-handed. Also found a thick thread of hair in our dessert to wrap up our experience.

We did ala carte at the bar. Excellent food!

Came for a second time, but several years apart, and we were a little disappointed this time. Food was tasty but there was nothing very spectacular/“wow” that stood out. The disappointment was due to the high cost and small portions. Nearing $500 for 2 with just 3 glasses of wine and we left not full. Donut dessert was a weak spot. The service was very good. Also confusing was the playful fem-centric wine list names but then listening to P Diddy on the playlist.

Great food. Definitely enjoy the comprehensive cocktail pairing for those who don’t drink. Honestly the food and the service could be better for the price you pay. Portions are very small and little things like timing are off. Feels very rushed through drinks.

Disappointing. Very friendly staff but the food was subpar. We ordered something called "dried pecorino" and expected a few slices of nicely-aged Italian cheese but received a giant amount of cheesy fried stuff. Nowhere in the menu did it say "fried" on that item, or I would NOT have chosen it. Likewise, we ordered the "foccacia and butter" and got a huge slice of, well, grease-dripping bread. So much for the delicate hors d'oeuvre we had in mind.
On to the main course. We both ordered scallops. Most, if not all, restaurants I have visited over the year serve you at least THREE scallops for a main course. This one only had two, which made it a pretty pricey entree. Whatever came with it was hardly seeable.
In my opinion, this place is an overhyped, nicely decorated ripoff, and I will never set foot there again.

My friends and I recently dined here hoping for an exceptional experience, but it was far from it. The food was shockingly bland—some dishes lacked salt, while others were far too salty. The ravioli, a highlight on the menu, was undercooked and chewy. To make matters worse, the entire meal took over three hours for just five courses, leaving us waiting far too long between dishes. The atmosphere didn’t live up to the Michelin star reputation; it felt underwhelming and unrefined. Given the poor quality, the price was outrageous—definitely below average. The one redeeming factor was the staff, who were kind and accommodating despite the disappointing food. Also where is the goat on the menu? Missed opportunity.
Dietary restrictions: Our group had a few dietary restrictions and were all accommodated.

It's a 1-star Michelin restaurant, so expect it to be pricey and not large servings. However, the 6-course meal was very good and did fill us up.
The scallops and potato courses were a bit too salty for our liking, but this is more for feedback and not a negative review, so I still give the restaurant a 5-star.
The restaurant is cozy and the staff was very professional.

I’ve been several times over the years and this was by far my worst experience and worst tasting menu I’ve ever had. The beef was fatty and undercooked. The service was super mediocre. Everything tasted like too much vinegar — the predinner drink, the dessert, etc. WAY overpriced. I don’t even remember the other dishes and it was last night - that’s how mediocre it was. There are really good meals in this town and this is not it anymore. Don’t eat here!

It was 80+ degrees outside so I wore a cocktail dress. It was freezing inside and they refused to turn down the AC. I was shivering the entire time, which made for a very unpleasant dining experience. It was difficult to focus on anything other than how aggressively cold it was inside the restaurant. I ended up swapping out my drink order for hot tea to simply try and warm up a bit.
For such an expensive restaurant, I would have expected a more formal interior design. But staff wore t-shirts and/or Hawaiian shirts. Other patrons wore t-shirts and sneakers. The look of the restaurant gives off $20 burger vibes, not upscale dining with a prix fixe menu.
The service staff were all very professional, punctual, and pleasant.
Some food was good, some was not good. The cocktail was disgusting, jarringly nasty tasting; perhaps it was their homemade ginger beer? The cookies were the best thing on the menu, simply heavenly. The peach butter combined with the already soaked-in-butter bread was nauseating -- simply too much butter; it would have been better to pair the peach flavored butter with a plain bread. The scallops were disappointingly bland and the corn was undercooked, too chewy. The miso hummus with veggies were yummy. The scallion stick thingies were very tasty. The beef was fatty, and the fat was difficult to scrape off (but my husband liked it a lot). Portion sizes were tiny.
Two people ordered the standard one-size-fits-all prix fixe meal + one cocktail + 1 cup of chamomile tea = $377. A shockingly high price tag that was simply nowhere near justified for what we got. I ended up needing to eat more food when we got home because I was still hungry from the tiny portion sizes. It is painful to think about how many more (and better) dinner experiences we could have enjoyed for that amount of money. This style of restaurant is clearly not for everyone.

I recently dined at what was supposed to be a 1-star Michelin restaurant, but my experience fell significantly short of expectations. The service, while polite, failed to enhance the meal. The kitchen did a nice job accommodating dietary restrictions. Each course seemed disjointed, with no harmony among the plates. The culinary distinction promised by the Michelin star was largely absent, resulting in a series of underwhelming dishes. A too spiced, too sweet, too salty rubbery, thick mushroom was largely left untouched. The sommelier did a great job describing the wines, but not even he could make the wines sing. The meal ended on a particularly disappointing note with a chocolate mousse that was pedestrian at best. Overall, the dining experience was a letdown and did not reflect the caliber one would expect from a Michelin-rated establishment.
