From walking in, we felt welcomed by the staff as they quickly seated us and helped us pick out what we want. They brought coloring sheets for the kids and listened carefully as they placed their orders. There's a ton of yummy food to pick from on the menu, which makes it hard to decide! I got the French Toast with fried chicken, and that was a great choice, the chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and paired well with the sweet eggy toast below.

Always a great visit at The Diner! They an have awesome bowl of oat meal!
I got the nachos, which were pretty good but later gave me a stomach ache. My partner got the chicken tenders, which she said were phenomenal. We both got a Caesar salad; it had enough dressing and the croutons weren’t too hard. The only downsides was the lack of air conditioning and the presence of flies everywhere.

It's a real diner in a town where too many dining options excel in pretentiousness. What more can you say...

If I could give them zero stars, I would. There were flies everywhere, the waitress never made eye contact when taking our order and missed a small part of our order, never came to check on us (so that we could tell her we missed a couple of items), we couldn’t get her attention and the food was just ok. Overall, not a good experience.

The food was decent however the service was terrible. I waited at least 10mins for someone to take my order after I was seated. I sat there watching the servers go all around me and standing around congregating before someone FINALLY came over. The waitress that came over seemed apologetic and said she thought the other lady was gonna take my order but the lady told her to go ahead and take it. Coffee was cold, restaurant full of flies and terrible service + they add an automatic 5% fee to each bill. There are much better diners in DC! Don't waste your time.

Top-notch diner food and coffee. Great service. Your food arrived fast. Would like to see later hours.
The oeuf d'animal et pomme de terre is the best item on the menu!

One star because there is close to 0 plant-based/vegan options, which is very unfortunate. Like just Chips and Guac, seriously? ?

We are tourist from NY, we ordered three meals. The chicken Alfredo was absolutely delicious, the Royals breakfast was a great value for amount of food, even. Though it could have used two french toast lol but we won’t go there. My spouse had a Philly cheesesteak which was not good! BUT the staff was so accommodating and understanding. They completely re did his order and it was fantastic. They were polite and apologetic. Customer service was exceptional and we would definitely go back for any future visits.

Good food, service, and portions. Maybe the AC was broken - it was HOT in there, and there were some flies buzzing around so not the best dining experience. But otherwise seems like a solid local joint, would go again. We got fried chicken & french toast, meatloaf, and the Boozy Biscoff Milkshake. All tasty.
IMO very few restaurants in DC are worthy of the $ (one dollar sign) designation, and this place is no exception. $15-$20 per entree.

I really liked the diner bowl, the sweet potatoes could have been cooked longer. But otherwise great. French fries perfectly fried.
Great bar, had the bone crusher, the drink was STRONG. I had half the drink and was good to go?
Parking: Difficulty parking with the street dining they have installed the last couple years.
