The wait staff was like going to the diner where the staff forgets everything that was said at the table. Ask for bread and water. Gave our water to a different table, then said our bottle was empty after pouring half a glass out of a quart still when we asked for sparkling! Never corrected this either. NO BREAD ever brought - selling 5-star and keep reusing champagne flutes, have full and charging for a full glass. The food was cold; the entrée came out on top of the appetizers. This place is a joke. 5-star only in location. For the experience, it was a 1-star and a colossal waste of money.
It was our 21st anniversary. We were hoping to get crabcakes, which was part of our wedding meal. They did not have them on the menu, but made them for us with a beautiful vegetable mix. They also presented us with a surprise raspberry torte. There was live piano music as well to top off a beautiful evening and great service.
Thr service was impeccable and the food superb. There is no more elegant setting in Waahington.
Excellent service, superb food choice & preparation. The best place for business lunches in Washington, DC
Great food and a pretty reasonable price for the quality!! Piano music added great ambiance!! Very classy and elegant place to dine!! Server was polite and attentive but struggled a bit with the wine service. Great time overall!!
This is the place to go for an amazing and elegant evening of dinning bliss. The service is outstanding and the food is in a class of its own. Best part was the truly delicious desserts!! Ten stars!!!
A friend and I enjoyed an early dinner at this restaurant Saturday evening after enjoying dinner there a few years ago. The food was extraordinary. The dining room and hotel lobby entrance are beautiful and calming. The servers were very pleasant and knowledgeable, but overall the service was less attentive and much slower than one expects in a restaurant as wonderful as this. The dining room was not full so that does not appear to be the reason for slower service. However, I would return in future visits to DC.
Love America, love Europe. Make sure you lead us all in peace!
Greetings from europe!
We're shocked to see how a bunch of billionairs burn down the principles of democracy and free speech in a hurry. And we are shocked to see, that you proud and free people let this happen. All the best to you!

My husband and I went to the Lafayette to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Upon making this reservation we were asked if we had a special occasion which I relayed. Not once did they mention it or acknowledge the celebration. Why ask if you're not going to do anything about it?

Vastly and impressively DISAPPOINTED!! Filet Sole, as the most expensive entre on the menu ($95) was Red Lobster grade! The only bread items were raisin bread or sourdough! When I requested plain French bread, and they brought Texas toast...and it even was a poor imitation of that! I requested souffle while placing the initial order, knowing it should take time to make, and the waiter only found out at the end of our meal, that the chef could not make it! Undoubtedly, the waiter completely forgot to order it, and then requested the chef too late. The waiter barely understood English such that he would get 50% of our requests correct! For instance, we requested a specific sequence of our order, and, while he outwardly indicated that he understood, he got it all wrong and brought all the dishes out at once. The wine never got poured on time, such that I finally just grabbed the bottle from the bucket and served ourselves. There were many more little failures in food and service that even Waffle House staff would not commit, and which are unforgivable in a restaurant that used to be first class dining experience. This restaurant needs a complete shakedown, starting with the chef! Ah, for the days 10+ years ago when Charu still was there. I fear the management might be powerless to make the needed changes, either due to finances or due to the employees being able to run the show? So sorry we even bothered to even make advanced reservations for a purely devastating experience.
We will never come back, unless there are well-published reviews by established gourmands.

The menu promised so much and I was so very disappointed. For 200 US dollars! It started with draft beer being offered on the menu - but it wasn't available. The red wine on the menu is from 2018 - but there is only the 2019 vintage. And there are no real staff who are familiar with high-quality food and wine. The tartare was still a good start. But the burnt octopus and the beef fillet, which tasted like liver, were carelessly prepared and partly cold. A big disappointment. For such an expensive restaurant in such a good hotel. The chef seems to have forgotten how to pamper his guests. Too bad!

This place is terrible. Screaming kids and awful service. $500 for dinner. When I spoke with the restaurant manager, he agreed service was not optimal and replied, "we will try to do better next time." There won't be a next time. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
