My husband and I typically stay at a high-end Marriott hotel every year to celebrate our anniversary. Our favorite hotel in DC (the W Hotel) unfortunately stopped being part of the Marriott family a few years ago. They had set the standard for anniversary celebrations for us (they always provided champagne, upgraded us to their best available suite, including their Presidential Suite once, etc).
This year for our special day we decided to try out the Ritz in Georgetown (in hopes of finding our new favorite DC hotel). While the team at this property was able to upgrade us to a one-bedroom suite (I used one of my suite night awards for this), the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
First off, the hallway where our room was located (West Wing, 2nd floor) smelled like an old closet - the space is in need of some TLC and deep cleaning. The design of the room itself was reminiscent of a lower category Marriott brand (Residence Inn or Courtyard) versus what you'd expect of a brand like the Ritz Carlton. While the bathroom was spacious, the towels were old and not soft at all, the overhead lighting by the sinks hideous (impossible to do your makeup here), the toilet tiny and the toilet paper...oh gosh. You'd think a high-end brand charging ~$800 per night/90k points would provide soft toilet paper and not the kind of sand paper you find at a movie theater or motel.
I'll say that the team did provide some nice chocolates to acknowledge our special day. However, my standards are way higher than this, especially after staying at other amazing properties around the world where the attention to detail has been second to none. Macaroons won't cut it when everything else is so mediocre.
I guess people who stay here on repeat are doing so for the location. I also have a feeling this brand is likely geared towards older men who may have a different definition of luxury at this point. I kept thinking of how awful the lighting in the bathroom was for any woman trying to do their makeup - whomever designed and whomever is maintaing this place isn't catering to a younger, more diverse clientele.
Cozy stay with great accommodations for our pup!

Room was lovely. Location was great. Service was lacking. One front desk person has a less than pleasant attitude when trying to sort out a key/access issue. My main issue was at the spa. I paid $600 on treatments. I was leaving to have brunch upstairs and asked if I could come back and use the amenities for a little. The desk woman basically said no. Imagine paying that much and being treated like that. I’m used to in and out privileges.

The driving in this area is pretty awful, but the hotel was wonderful and the staff was great. It was a very nice experience.
The disappointing thing was that they do not offer a club level at this Ritz Carlton
Rooms: The room was like an apartment, it was HUGE!
Immaculately clean and comfortable
Walkability: The waterfront area is right around the corner and very walkable with plenty of restaurants and bars.

Bad, very bad service. Arrogance to a level of impoliteness. Despite a good location, that’s not a place I’ll be back to

I recently had an unpleasant experience at this hotel due to an interaction with one of the managers. The manager in question came across as disrespectful and rude during our conversation, which was disappointing, especially given the high standards I expect from a place like this.
While the hotel generally offers a great experience, the attitude and professionalism of the management staff need significant improvement. It’s important for managers to treat guests with respect and maintain a welcoming environment. I hope the hotel addresses these concerns to ensure a better experience for future guests.
Here is words from the manager: “Sorry but cookies are limited make sure to not use twice” ???

Everything fitted. Very friendly staff. The hotel and the rooms were also very tidy. It is a rather smaller and cozy hotel.
The breakfast was okay - a la carte - just American, not really anything special.
The only point of criticism is the very small and poorly equipped gym! Otherwise everything is great!

We love it here we came in town with the grandkids for the weekend. It’s easy to navigate the city and get to the monuments. Our first time here was 2 years ago and we walked everywhere. This time we drove around given their ages. The club level remains very friendly but it has changed a bit in what they serve but it is still a high quality selection of food and beverage items. On Sunday they had a chef preparing Eggs Benedict to order. Our suite was perfect as the kids had their own bathroom and the sofa bed was spacious for them while we had our own space and a balcony.

What was supposed to be a nice short getaway stay turned into an utterly disappointing experience at The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown.
Despite their 5-star status, their handling of a simple billing mistake has been nothing short of a nightmare.
After an incorrect charge of nearly $1000 was made to my credit card, I was assured by the staff at checkout that the amount would be refunded immediately. However, days turned into weeks, and despite numerous follow-ups via email, I received nothing but excuses.
The Senior Rooms Operations Manager mentioned that the Finance team would resolve the issue swiftly but since then all I got was radio silence.
For a hotel that markets itself as luxury and top-tier service, their customer service has been appallingly subpar. The lack of responsiveness and accountability is unacceptable, especially given the price tag that comes with staying at a Ritz-Carlton.
I would expect these kind of mistakes from maybe a budget motel, not a 5-star hotel. If you value your money and time, avoid this place. Clearly, they do not live up to their reputation.

I was a little disappointed at my last stay because there was about 3-4 inches around my feet in the shower. Not sure how this was missed if the shower was cleaned you would see the water would not drain. I was told a manager would call me but no follow through.

What a beautiful experience at this location as a visitor! It started before I walked in. The attendant saw me, opened the door for me, and walked me inside. Then Miriam greeted me, offered me something to drink and a dessert while I waited. She made my day. I will be returning as a guest one day even though I am a local simply due to the fact of how well I was treated and received by everyone in the lobby. Thank you all for going above and beyond to make your guests and visitors feel welcomed. True class and excellent hospitality.
