What a great brunch! We live in DC so it is easy to forget restaurants that are not in our monthly rotation! We had only ever eaten dinner at The Smith in NYC and loved it, so we were happy to try our local restaurant! Coffees were yummy, goat cheese omelet was creamy and delicious, French toast and pancakes were amazing! We will go back after dry January to try cocktails!

the restaurant has great potential, the decor and design is very good. Caught them between shift change. The service was nonexistent until the sommelier jumped in and he was awesome. The menu was lacking neither lunch nor dinner it was really limited. That too could change if you asked but who knew? I will go back to give it another try but i was not overly impressed.

Great food! Great service. Had the bene with cornbread was fantastic. Wife has the Bfast sandwich also great. Her home fries on point as well.

We visited during NYE and it was a scam! We made a reservation via Open Table for the NYE experience and needed to pay 85 dollar for the special menu. When we arrived at the restaurant we needed to wait at the bar for around 10 - 15 minute, which is very strange if you already paid your table during reservation.

When our table was ready our server gave us the regular menu AND the special one. By doing so I saw the same dishes on both menu's, but also noticed that ordering the same dishes on the regular menu was way cheaper than via the NYE menu. In other words: the special NYE menu, that needed to be prepaid during booking, was a complete scam! It was a difference of around 15 dollars more per person.

When addressing this to the manager she only cared about me not giving any tip to the server.

Please only go here if you want to pay too much and don't give anything about service or experience.

It was nice, service was goodđŸ«°đŸ» The only thing I recommend is booking in advance because it gets very crowded, and we had to eat at the bar.

Such a great and friendly staff!
You've got to try the sticky toffee pudding. My favorite part was having complimentary sparkling water served with the meal, which was a nice touch.

Communication barrier with waiter, felt rushed and unimportant. Filet was dry and below average. When I tried to communicate this with waiter he laughed and kept walking. I still tipped 20.00 cash because at the end of day they need to making a living, he didn’t acknowledge and simply walked off and threw my card on the table. Management was understanding. The salmon was very good though

We arrived at The Smith in Penn Quarter just 2 minutes past our reservation hold time, only to be met with an unbelievably rude hostess who refused to accommodate us despite the minor delay.

Beer Snob

Not sure why anybody would go to this place other than convenience. As I understand it, back in the day it was a good place, but it has long since fallen from grace. I travel every 4 weeks or so to DC for work and have always walked by this place without going in... I should have continued to do so. If you want a good fixture place go to Old Ebbitts.

Love the tuna tartare crispy rice and martinis. Unfortunately the service is the worst and I regret anytime I come here. This recent visit I sat at the bar a couple of minutes before HH and the place was empty. Ordered tuna tartare and french fries and 2 drinks. 30 mins go by and I asked the server an update on our food order
he looks at us confused and completely forgot to put in the first thing I asked for. At this point I am running late so I can’t wait more for food so I have to leave hungry. It would’ve been prevented if he at least followed up with us on our drinks or asked if we wanted something to eat, after all there was literally 6 other people at the bar so no busy at all. This type of service or lack thereof make it difficult to support businesses when workers literally don’t feel like doing the bare minimum

Kristy E is the BEST bartender!!!!!!! She is always there to make everyone feel welcome and at home! The steak was delicious as well as everything else! However the reason I go here is because of the Most Awesome Lady Kristy E!
