Recommended by a Georgetown student, and the dude was 100% on the money. This place is fun, authentic, full of atmosphere and history. The did was great. I loved the brisket sandwich. I tried everyone rises food at my table, and it was ALL good. This is where people in the know are going to go. Now you've read this, so you're in the know too.

Just a couple of priests, having beers, and questioning faith with no idea of what lies ahead of them…

The Tombs is such a classic Georgetown spot—with that cozy, collegiate charm that makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. It’s got this old-school, wood-paneled vibe that’s perfect for everything from casual dinners to catching up with friends over drinks.

I stopped by for a late lunch and was really impressed. The menu has a great mix of comfort food and elevated pub fare. I ordered the Tombs burger and it was juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The sweet potato fries were a nice touch, too! My friend had the crab cake sandwich and loved it. Cocktails were solid—not overly complicated, just well made and refreshing.

I love tombs, but they have just made a devastating decision. The $5 cover is simply outrageous. I will happily change this review to a 5 star if they remove the cover.

Edit: now 5 stars

My favorite restaurant in the Georgetown area. Its underground and has such a college town/historical feel. You might say a DC institution.

Located in the heart of Georgetown campus, the Tombs is the best of 'dive' bars. Great food and atmosphere. Lively and the place to go for the best night out on the town!

I’ve been going to the Tombs for close to 25 years. Things have certainly changed, including the way that the managers speak to customers. I had a large group and was told that there would be an hour wait, which I relayed to my party who was still on their way. Just 15 minutes later, I received a text message saying that my table was ready. When I approached the host stand I was told that we had to wait until everyone in the party had arrived. Mind you - I just told people with children to take their time given the original time estimate. This was Reunion Weekend. People were ready to spend money and catch up over their favorite Tombs fare, and when I tried to point this out to a manager who will stay unnamed in this review, she pretty much harangued me with the same tired policy. Her behavior was inexcusable. If it weren’t for the wait staff, I would give 0 stars for service. This is not how you treat a loyal alumni base that has filled your coffers and bolstered your reputation.

We had dinner on Sunday. Decent crowd but were seated immediately. Our Steak Frites & Faroe Salmon were solid, but wouldn't go out of my way for. Booth was super cramped.

“Late review”
So I came from out of town for a friend’s graduation party at Georgetown. We decided to hang out at this place and at first glance, it seemed nice. However, after we ordered our drinks and food, a security guard approached me and asked for my ID “which I provided”. After grabbing my ID and taking it with her to her supervisor/manager, she decided it was a fake ID to her naked eyes and completely destroyed my ID.

Now if it was a fake ID i wouldnt have cared, but the fact that the security guard didnt hesitate to question me for my ID and destroy it without my consent was what ruined the whole experience for me, and embarrassed my Georgetown friend who recommended us this place.

I was later approached by their managers an all they did was apologize, offer me a free drink or food “of which they didnt provide lol”, and tell me that they have the right to destroy an ID if it is fake.

If you have an ID that looks fake “or if you look younger than your age” this is not the place for you i guess..

Service was awful. Our waitress Lachelle took our order and disappeared for the rest of our meal, someone else brought it over and she did not once check back in to make sure everything was ok or grab more drinks. Once finishing we waited over 15 mins and still could not see her anywhere in the restaurant to flag her down, we ended up calling over a host to find her for us. She then showed up several minutes after that and was quite dismissive the rest of the evening, when she brought the check back after running our card she basically threw it back on the table in passing, it was really quite rude, we were shocked. We had no troubles in ordering so not sure what caused this change in service. As we were going to leave up the stairs she was in the entry corner glued to her phone... such a shame since the food was actually quite good.

I love the tombs usually bc I go to Georgetown but the manger Tommy is super unkind and unprofessional and makes students feel unwelcome on their own campus.
