I visited the Whale Tea for the third time today. After eating a few bites of the danish, I looked at the bottom and found mold. Very scary health wise and disappointing.

I enjoyed the strawberry milk tea the first time I visited which is why I am leaving 3 starts and not 1.

Tea was INSANE. Cute moody playlist too - so lovely and quiet - a perfect place to work, study, or unwind. Food was unreal. Loads of options for a good price 🩷🩷

Good Thai tea and excellent pastries.

I walked in and ordered a smoothie and a chocolate croissant. Service was slow because there was only one person at the counter. My croissant had too much chocolate in it I had to toast 2 slices of a baguette to make up for the excess chocolate. The chocolate was perfect! (-not bitter and not too sweet-) My croissant came with a few slices of cantaloupe. All in all a great experience!

Solid boba. I love that they open at 9am! Their grapefruit tea was good as was their boba. I was worried it would be too sweet since you can't specify the sugar level, but I was pleasantly surprised. Their boba is nice and chewy.

I did also try a chocolate croissant and would skip that in the future. It comes with white and milk chocolate and was too sweet for me.

I personally enjoy the boba here it’s honestly a go to! I highly recommend the mango boba tea from here and the boba pearls is super good, I like how it’s not like some other places where it just feels really hard. Shoutout to the girl who has a purplish/galaxy colored hair it seems, she makes it really well when I stop by and usually who makes it for me. I finish it sometimes before I can get a photo of it but it’s a 10/10

can’t speak for the other food and drinks, since I only ordered an iced Americano. It cost close to $6. I was hoping it would be a good cup of coffee, even if it wasn’t cheap. But the moment I took a sip, I realized the beans were not fresh and tasted old. The staff also didn’t seem professional. Sorry to say, but I felt like I just lost $6. Honestly, I would have been better off getting a $1 iced Americano at McDonald’s.

they made one of our teas with whole milk instead of almond milk. the oreo pieces were a viscous soupy mess in the drink (fine if its because they dissolved, but this was as soon as we got the drink). my drink was half sweet but it was extremely sweet and syrupy

I like the concept and the set up as well as the menu.
Some constructive criticism:
To be a little faster in making the drinks. It takes awhile for a cappuccino and a “slush.”
Make the cappuccino correctly. I’m basically getting a cup of hot milk with a little coffee.
Outdoor seating is nice, but not practical to have a table and four chairs around, but only one person sits there, discouraging others to share. Perhaps smaller two-tops are more practical and would allow more outdoor seating.
I wish The Whale Tea success. It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood.

When my aunt and a few friends tried The Whale Tea DC, they were blown away. The cafe is tidy and cozy with beautiful chandeliers plus plenty of drink options and sweets choices. Conveniently, they offer a kiosk where you can order and select from a variety of flavors and customize your drink. They offered a 30% discount for first time customer. We ordered iced coffee, a frappe, passionfruit with boba, and fresh milk with boba and brown sugar. The boba and macarons are the best! It was a positive experience overall. The owner, Teresa, is also incredibly accommodating.

On July 28th, 2025 I visited whale tea in DC ive been multiple time and it's was the same 2 workers and I've been different times of the day so im not understanding that.....it's just over all a horrible experience the Boba is either over done or under done......the workers look overly exhausted.....and honestly I think the better option is viet shop next door the Boba is done perfectly everytime. In my opinion the owner needs to do better with scheduling and give them folks some time off.
