There’s always a long line up as this is one of the most popular ice cream shop in the area. Only cash is accepted unless you spend more than $20 (?)
The ice cream is very rich and milky. I personally find it too sweet and prefer it to be fruitier. If you like gelato or sorbet, this may not be for you.
Great quality for the price!! Wouldn't love to visit again!
Cute little sweet stop in Georgetown.
Popped in after a museum visit and grabbed a small café au lait with rainbow sprinkles. Pleased with the generous portion and exactly what I needed on a hot afternoon. It was around $8, so just a heads-up: they don’t accept card payments under $10, so make sure you’ve got some cash if you’re flying solo. The line moved quickly and efficiently which was appreciated on a toasty day. The ice cream totally hit the spot and I will return to try more flavors!
Great selection of frozen treats, no complaints there, but the interior could use an update to keep up with this neighborhood.
The ice cream itself was decent — good texture and flavor, but nothing extraordinary or worth raving about. What really soured the experience, though, was the service. The person behind the counter was noticeably rude and unfriendly, which made the whole visit feel unwelcoming. A smile or even basic courtesy would’ve gone a long way. Unfortunately, the lack of hospitality overshadowed the treat.
Ice cream was fine, but the staff acted like serving customers was beneath them. Rude, cold, and downright nasty. Go anywhere else — unless you like being treated like garbage with your cone.
thomas sweets is instantly nostalgic upon introduction. as soon as you walk in, you’re met with a densely packed chalk written menu items that loom over new arrivals and consistent orders from regulars. i am very loyal to my plain froyo with chocolate chips, though i respect those accompanying me who choose to have dark chocolate sea salt fudge or dulce de leche ice cream.
do be warned that the portions are very large. if you think you want a medium, get a small, and so on and so forth. contrary to popular belief, it is possible to have too much ice cream.
thomas sweets is best enjoyed late at night, as a classic dessert after a nice long dinner or a spontaneous trip after a slow evening. it stays open very late, leaving you with plenty of time to debate the addition of ice cream or more to your days diet. more times than not, thomas sweets wins the debate. i suggest walking in and asking for what you want, rather than getting lost in both the menu and the increasingly crowded space. chances are they’ll have it.

Liked the ice cream - customer service could be better - looks like the guys working there didn’t want to be there.
Good value for a good amount of good ice cream. There are other places that have more intense flavors with fancier ingredients. But this is a solid place with larger servings than most places these days - and it's a Georgetown institution!

I recently visited Thomas Sweet Ice Cream in Georgetown and was thoroughly impressed. The variety of flavors is extensive, and the quality is top-notch. I opted for a cone dipped in chocolate, which was both delicious and satisfying. I never had Coffee Oreo ice cream before this visit, anywhere, and now I'm hooked. The old-timey shop ambiance adds to the overall experience, making it a must-visit spot for ice cream lovers in DC.

Watered down milk shakes and no flavor. Long lines for what?!
A bunch of flavors to choose from and the guy at the register was super nice. There is a lot of seating but they are awkwardly placed. Will definitely visit again.

Pretty tasteless ice cream in a dingy space.

No doubt one of the best ice cream place I have been. Both my parents like it! Caramel based favors might be too sweet, thanks to the guys who let us tried before ordering. We ordered chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla, all 3 are nice. But honestly I wish I tried something weird LOL. So I will come back I guess.
