Lovely NYE dinner with excellent food and service. Their pasta is innovative and large portions.
We used to come to this restaurant every year for Christmas and maybe once in a while otherwise. However, it has been at least three if not, four years since we did come for an annual small party of four dinner. There was not an Italian voice in the restaurant and that doesn't necessarily mean anything however there was hardly any voices in the restaurant because it was empty. It was a Thursday night and we were in the main dining room away from the front door and we were the only diners there the entire evening. Around 8:30 or 8:45 at night the music went off and I looked around and went into the other room and we were the only people left. I personally ordered the special, chicken Parmesan. How anyone cannot make this perfectly is beyond me. It was inedible. Times come and times go, but Tortino is gone.
One of the better Italian places in DC. Service and food are of the highest quality, and best yet, at a great price. Definitely worth a try—you'll fall in love!
One of the best restaurants in the convention center area. Homemade pasta fresh ingredients and amazing bread. Servers were knowledgeable and attentive Chef made us a dish off the menu. Terrific wine selection
Fantastic food. Much better than what you get at places that charge you for their rent rather than the quality of their food. The lighting could be a little bit better. Some of the corners are pretty dark and the fake candles don't help. Service is usually very good.
We lived in DC for several years and fell in love with Tortino! Food is amazing! Service and ambiance are excellent. We return every time we are in town. We had a 7pm reservation on the first night of our current visit! We'll be back when we return in April!
We ate here whilst visiting Washington on business. Service was friendly if a little rushed. The food was excellent. A good choice of pasta mains and some specials/Entrees My creamy pasta with crisped pork was delicious Clearly the chef knows how to cook. The seafood pasta had generous portions. Definitely worth a visit.
The food quality is great - we always enjoy our dinner here. The calamari and carpaccio are our favorites!
Every dish we ordered was made with such detail and care. We enjoyed every single moment of our visit. I highly recommend any of their pasta dishes, you won't be disappointed
I decided to try this restaurant because they have homemade gnocchi. I tried to call and move my reservation by an hour, but the seating was not available so I expected the restaurant to be packed when I arrived. It was a Sunday night and the place was basically empty. They servers were attentive. The gnocchi was passable but the ricotta cheesecake was exceptional My biggest issue is that the manager/owner sat at the Bar on the phone, not interacting with guests at all. Which I found to be particularly peculiar since I was seated directly across from him eating alone. He made no effort at all. there are so many good restaurants in DC. this in my opinion is not one of them. when managers/owners don't care about improving the customer experience why should anybody else?

Very likable restaurant. Prices are mid range. This is old school atmosphere (or not changed for years) . The ambiance is old fashioned but the menu tries too hard to be up to date. The dishes are more involved than they should be (nuts, red peppers on salads). Italian, in my kind should be simple, with fewer ingredients. As such, we ordered the crab ravioli and fettuccine Bolognese, which were perfectly coed and well banked and not complicated. The tiramisu was darn good. Our waiter was lively and also old school. Overall we had a good evening dining here because the dishes we ordered were prepared correctly, the wine list was not overpriced and we did not feel like we had to be on our A game.
First time at the family run, neighborhood gem. Will certainly return. Warmly greeted upon arrival. Service is warm and friendly, as you'd expect at a family run place. Wine list is good. All the dishes were good, except one : the pasta alla norcina was far too greasy.
Tortino is a solid Italian gem tucked in Shaw. Cozy setting, nice service, and you can tell effort went into the food. The handmade pastas (especially the linguini & braised lamb ravioli) are really good, and the appetizers like carpaccio and scallops deliver. Desserts are light but satisfying — panna cotta is a winner.
It’s not cheap, and sometimes service lags a bit when it’s busy, but overall great for a date night or dinner with friends. Definitely will go back.
