Came in on Black Friday at 1PM with a friend for a coffee + reading hangout. The interiors were nice and cozy. I thought it would be a typical cafe where you stand in line and place your order but I was told to sit down and wait for a server. Cool, I thought. But we had to wait 20 mins for someone to come by and take our coffee order. I was sitting on one of the long couches and had to share with another customer. He sat down at 1:40 and as I write this at 2:12, no one has come by to take his order!! One of the cleaners walked by saying he was going to call the server but no one came for this man’s order. Do better. Or just let us place our orders at the counter?

I don’t live anywhere near here and google suggested it when I accidentally hit a few buttons. But I give it 5 stars because the stuff looks really good and it probably is. 🐸👍🐸👍

I gave this cafe a 5-star review in the past because I had great interaction with the other employees. Although, today, what pissed me off was a white woman who is probably in her late 30s with short dark blond hair, at least 5'7-5'8 in height, skinny white woman. I barely sat down, and I wanted to work on my schoolwork after work, and I already had a long day I was on the phone with my gf Who heard everything BTW. The white woman came to me, gave me a menu, and water. I didn't want anything at the moment because I wanted to go over my school work and just settle in. She came back 5 minutes later after she eyeing me for across the bar and said, "I can get you anything?" I didn't open the menu yet to go over what I wanted at the moment so I replied, "I am alright with the water for (Right Now) She gave me RUDE!!!!! remark: "You are just going to sit in a restaurant and not order anything!?" (I am alright with the water for Right Now, what does that tell her please come to me when I'm ready to order!--- I gave her a look and said, "Just leave the menu there I will eventually!" Mind you - I’m a regular - then she walked away with a horrible attitude. Then I ordered a Chai Tea after her return and It was given to me cold like What Did I do to you, Lady? IF she is the manager here, talk about a hostile environment. I work at a cafe too, and not ONCE I would say that to a customer. I understand if they are lingering around, and you ask them 2-3 times, and if they want anything and they still say no, then, by all means, you can ask them to leave. I've been coming here for 2 months straight and spent my money here had good conversations I always said Hello to the employees that I know! I made this place my original spot to come to after work or on my weekends off. (IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL CONTINUE MY SERVICE ELSE! WHERE!) As a brown person I felt beyond discriminated considering the fact she was only NICE to the white people around me smiled to them and spoke with customers service voice and then side eyeing me and never acknowledged me once to see how is everything going only to the WHITE PEOPLE around me. Thanks Karen for ruining my regular cafe. This is why we CANT have nice things!

I think iced coffee is sort of a baseline item. At Tryst, it’s a brown water with very little flavor. The pecan pie was equally, if not more disappointing. The viscosity was off and the crust was thick. It wasn’t very easy to eat and I can’t recommend it.

The chairs we sat in were comfortable but table service wasn’t straight forward. We went to their counter because of their setup. The server was kind and didn’t make us get up but it felt a little awkward.

Like a good amount of reviews below say, the service in this place is way below par and you’ll be sitting there for an extended time without getting any service or being noticed, specially if you are a person of color, they have no problem letting you know of their disinterest in helping you albeit the fact that they see you sitting there, you can tell the place lacks genuine leadership and the message from upstairs is a bit ugly seeing how unenthused the employees are; hence why customers are complaining on here about the lack of equal service to all. The servers are borderline frightening and frown a lot and portray that they dislike what they do. Nonetheless, the atmosphere to work is nice.

I wanted a quick coffee for dine in at a late hour. However, Tryst required me to sit, wait, and do a table service transaction. Why not just let the customer immediately order the coffee and save lots of waiting and hassle? I ultimately had to walk out since only had 30 minutes.

Owner apparently doesn’t pay their employees. Customers apparently pay the salary of the people that work here, and instead of paying their employees because of new legislation they expect us the customer to subsidize their business. This business is gross and should not be visited until the employees are paid.

Love that you get your coffee in an actual mug, not in a paper cup, the bagel and creamcheese was so good, the scrambled egg was unfortunately inedible

Every time I'm in DC, I stop by this place for a drink and a hang out session. Great atmosphere, amazing people at the counter, and some of my favorite drinks on the road away from home.

Definitely give the smoothies a try!
