What a pleasure it is to dine here. The DMV has never known an omakase experience until the arrival of Two Nine. The care and attention that’s taken into each bite is an out of body experience. As someone who was lucky enough to experience omakase dinners in Tokyo, this is an authentic and memorable experience as it gets in the US. Everything moves so fast in this world, I encourage anyone to come here and slow down and savor each and every bite. Drink lots of sake too, their menu is outstanding!!

This review is for the omakase counter, which is exceptional. Our meal was a beautiful balance of quality and creativity. Complimented perfectly by the whimsical sake pairing. What a delightful way to spend an evening, ending in a pastry I’ve been dreaming about ever since.

my review is for the morning/daytime cafe. i LOVED it. the matcha was the best quality i have found in DC, and i am picky. the matcha latte was beautifully balanced, creamy and lush. i got two hand rolls: spicy tuna and salmon avocado. as a gluten free gal, i was so happy to find out the spicy tuna was gluten free! they took really good care of me in that way, they even gave me gluten free soy sauce. the salmon and avocado were so fresh. i really enjoyed the snack. the cherry on top was that when i opened my bag, i saw that they had given me 2 butter mochi, a complimentary treat! i was so surprised and grateful. it’s hard to find gluten free desserts and the mochi were deliciously flavored and fudgy, not too sweet. again, high quality. i was so impressed with the service and food and would love to come back for an omakase dinner. a must try spot if you appreciate quality food and drink!

Great walk-up window for their casual take out and coffee spot! We love coming by with our dog! The chirashi bowl was excellent!

Update: We just tried the upstairs restaurant for omakase and it was phenomenal! All the fish was so fresh and delicious. We had a wonderful experience in an intimate setting at the counter. A true gem in the neighborhood.

We didn't have any issues getting a reservation and came to celebrate our anniversary. While we inputted this into our reservation, there wasn't anything out of the ordinary of a normal reservation such as a card or a mention (which was fine but maybe a note if you're looking to celebrate other special occasions here). This was in DC so there was some street parking but always recommend allowing yourself some time to park if driving. Tucked away, once you go inside, there is a doorbell. They come down to escorted you upstairs. It's a nice space upstairs and pretty quiet, easy to talk and have conversation.

The Omakase was a great experience and we loved everything we had. We also tried an uni tasting for an extra $100 which was absolutely worth it. Everything was great.

While we didn't mind, it would have been nice to know the cost of the additional uni tasting and even had to ask for specifics on some of the sake prices. Service was friendly but the flow and timing could use some improvement.

Delicious otherwise and worth a visit. The chef was great and was talkative as well with the guests.

Phenomenal environment, Ferrete (apologies if spelled incorrectly) is well versed in sake, Chef Zack is a master of his craft. Quite possibly the best sushi, and omakase in the DC area. Chef Amy makes wonderful desserts. Clean enviroment, beautiful atmosphere, worth every penny.

Went here for my birthday this year and was very excited about it based on the reviews. I have had sushi from the cheapest hole in the wall to the most expensive NYC sushi counter and am sad to say this was much closer to the former than the later. Every piece was either overly chewy (even king salmon, fatty tuna, tuna collar) or poorly cut. Our server was very nice and the atmosphere is casual and fun but I don’t recommend dropping 300+ dollars for the fish.

I had one of the worst dining experiences I can remember at Two Nine on September 12, 2025. We had an 8:30 PM reservation for the à la carte table, and from the very beginning things went downhill.

First, while waiting to be seated, we saw a kitchen staff member picking his nose over the counter. That was an immediate red flag for cleanliness and professionalism.

Then, instead of being seated promptly, we were left standing near the entrance by stacked red crates for 10 to 15 minutes while our server, Forrest, busied himself with everything except preparing our table. He poured wine for other guests, seated groups that came in after us, and collected checks, but never acknowledged us or made us feel welcome.

When we finally said we were leaving, Forrest dismissively claimed he was “actively cleaning the table,” even though we had just watched him do anything but. His attitude made us feel inferior, as though we were not worth his time because we were at the à la carte table rather than omakase. His tone and behavior suggested that we did not fit the type of guest he wanted to serve, whether because of assumptions about tipping or wealth, but the disrespect was obvious.

My girlfriend left feeling embarrassed, and what was supposed to be a fun night was ruined. I had been genuinely excited to try Two Nine and was even considering it for a private work event, but now I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The way we were treated was unacceptable. Restaurants live or die by hospitality, and Two Nine completely failed at even the basics: cleanliness, professionalism, and making guests feel welcome.

Zack was an amazing chef. He made sure we were properly fed and was very detailed about special occasions. Such a great experience. Second to none in the city!

Disclosure - from Hawaii, frequent Japan. Haven't been to Georgetown in a few yrs. Located in the back of an alley..its a black two story metal bldg.

Be sure to ask how much their Chirashis are since the menu only has drink prices. We thought they would b pretty standard at $30-50 each but when our total for two Kaizen's and a Hojicha ended up being about $180 😅 i was so confused. We ended up downgrading one order but still...we walked out $140 poorer.

Even in the most expensive Chirashi/sushi places in Hawaii - u never spend max $60 for a huge Chirashi. The quality and arrangement was good but not $75 good for one bowl. Wish I could say it was spectacular and worth the price..but unfortunately it wasn't. 😕

You order outside the restaurant then climb a set of stairs to eat in takeout containers upstairs. They'll walk it up to you yay but that's about it.

Nice place...but we must be paying Georgetown prices unfortunately.

I went to the cafe two nine window for a to go order and it was amazing. The matcha has a great flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. I also got the chirashi salmon bowl. The salmon is very good quality and so delicious. Great quality fish. I love that you can get good quality food to go.

Their lunch Chirashi bowls are sooo delicious! (Please see photo for reference.) I am impressed by their attention to detail and how every component of the bowl was tasty. When I first received my order, I was amazed by how pretty the bowl was and paused to look at it and take photos hehehe. Again, the chirashi bowl was so tasty I couldn’t help myself shimmying in a happy dance as I ate my bowl. I hope more people can come and check this place out and support!

The best omakase experience I’ve ever had. Chef Zach is truly an artist and expert of his craft. Every bite was crafted with such care and attention to detail, the flavors were out of this world. Every small dish was so unique, extremely fresh, and all sourced from local farms. The fish was also extremely fresh and practically melted in my mouth.

Incredible intimate ambience. Would highly recommend this experience.

We had the tasting menu and were extremely satisfied. The chef created a very friendly atmosphere and was there to answer any question we had. We not only ate great food, but learned a thing or two about how it’s made, where it’s caught, and what goes into running a restaurant as serious as this one. The price point is high, but I would say it’s definitely worth it! An absolutely stellar 10/10 experience.

🍣 Elevated Elegance
Dining at Two Nine was a standout experience. The à la carte nigiri was refined and richly flavorful, echoing the precision of Tokyo’s finest sushi spots. Though we weren’t at the omakase counter, the sake selections still enhanced the meal beautifully. Exceptional seafood, impeccable technique—an unforgettable evening.
