The service provided here is severely lacking. The staff exhibit rudeness, condescension, and an overall negative attitude. I wouldn't advise anyone to visit this establishment. Basic human decency and respect should be standard, not the exception.

First, the staff is great! They are respectful, professional, and friendly. So my 1 star for service has no bearing on my interactions with the staff. They are wonderful! It has everything to do with what may be dishonest charges. Before I get to that…the WiFi… really? I mean really?Although I enjoy elements of this coffee shop, especially the staff’s professionalism and kindness, good music, multitude of plants (need some work on the lighting), there is something to say about its odd policy regarding WiFi. Apparently WiFi is only available from Mondays to Fridays, NO weekends. When you do use the WiFi on the weekdays you must obtain a timed ticket, with a unique username and password, and you can only use it for a certain duration of time. The no WiFi on the weekend though…that got to me. You start to feel like they just want to nickel and dime you, which is just undignified.Back to the weird charges… I have noticed a discrepancy in charges. Every time I purchase a small vanilla latte, I get charged either $6.13 or $6.23, as verified on my bank statements. I ask for the receipt every time, and it always states $5.99. Additionally, there is a a “recommended service charge” anytime you order anything, and they also charge an additional 3% or 4% when you use any card. When I have brought it up to the staff regarding how the charge is being calculated and reasons for my receipt’s inaccuracy, they are unable to explain the discrepancy and said I should speak to management/owner.As someone that strongly values integrity and firmly take issue with dishonesty, the lack of transparency DOES NOT sit well with me. It starts to feel like there is an element of deception going on. I hope one of these days some reasonable explanation can be provided.

As a cafe, Tynan gets five stars. The coffee is great, the food is tasty, the employees are lovely, and the atmosphere is cozy. All that being said, it’s not my designated coffee shop. That’s because the WiFi situation is EXTREMELY frustrating. For a place that advertises free WiFi for its customers, the internet is terrible. It’s only available on weekdays — this isn’t mentioned — and you have to get unique login info every time you go. The info is printed on the receipt, but most of the time, the folks at the front counter don’t even give it to you unless you ask. Even then, it doesn’t always work.I really hope management can figure out this kink, because Tynan has the potential to be a go-to spot for Columbia Heights residents who work remotely. Until then, I’ll still visit during my downtime to enjoy coffee and lox bagels.

A gem of the neighborhood. My favorite spot to get away from Columbia Heights chaos. Breakfast sandwiches are the best in the area and the inside is a haven.

Favorite neighborhood cafe. The staff is the absolute best, always so friendly and helpful, amazing customer service. Food is great, love their sandwiches, which are made to order. We also get all of our coffee for home there, they grind it up quickly and you get a free house coffee when you buy a bag.

I love Tynan! The sandwiches are delicious and super well made, whether you do take out or dine in. My favorite is the smokehouse sandwich, it comes on perfectly toasted jalapeño cheddar bread. They have an impressive assortment of different coffee beans as well, if you’re into that. The employees, other guests and overall atmosphere is very inviting and peaceful, and I always find a place to sit. I’ve completely stopped going to the Starbucks because how much better the drinks, food, and service are for a comparable price.

Love this place!! Conveniently located, good coffee, and really nice atmosphere. (Just wish it was open longer - ideally til 5 or even into the evening if possible.)

If you are looking to support a local coffee shop and stop giving your money to conglomerates like Starbucks, this is the place! Besides the great tasting coffee, food, and various options, the staff really brings you back! The owner is always present, very kind, and takes care of his people which resonates through their amazing customer service. I don't mind paying an extra dollar for a cup of coffee knowing the employees are treated well. Try the Farmhouse sandwich!

We stopped in for breakfast before shopping and how scrumptious! My husband ordered the smokehouse sandwich and WOW. The jalapeño cheddar bread was incredible. The whole sandwich was stellar. I ordered the classic egg and cheese sandwich which stood up to its name- nothing special but good. However the pistachio cardamom latte I had was SPECTACULAR. The flavor profile was amazing. Service was great and decently quick! Will absolutely be back.

Surprised that the aggregate rating for this place isn't 5 star. I came here about 5-10 times and each time was incredibly happy with my coffee and sandwich. Very authentic and reasonable priced. I also liked that the coffee was great in terms of caffeine but didn't make me anxious as other coffee shops coffee have. 5 stars!

I live close by so I want to like this place more. It's good when it's good but things go wrong too often when I stop in and today kinda broke me. I ordered a nitro cold brew ($6), they charged me for it and gave me an iced coffee ($4) instead. When I said "oh, sorry, I actually ordered the nitro" they explained the nitro machine wasn't working so they were giving people iced coffee today. But still charging for the nitro! Just, why?

My goal would be to try as many coffee places as I can in DC, so thanks to Yelp, I found this place not too far from me and my neighbor. I recall coming here during the weekday to catch up with a friend and will be coming back for their sandwiches. I opted for an iced coffee at the time and failed to take a picture. At any rate, the Catch Me if you Can sandwich was so delicious that is probably why the coffee pic took a backseat. This is in Columbia Heights very close to my place in Admo and I drove there and did street parking as it was easy to find in the morning. When we came around 8:30am, it was not too busy, but by the time we got there and ordered a line was forming out the door. Overall, a great coffee spot with an enormous amount of choices for food. I enjoyed the soft egg, bacon and increadible brioche bun. I may go back and try their bagels next time as there seemed to be a good amount of choices:)
