I came to the cafeteria to get a snack after our tour on the day before Thanksgiving! I ended up getting the best ever complete Thanksgiving dinner for 19.75. Delicious fresh carved smoked turkey, mashed and sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, fresh green bean casserole, cranberry sauce , fresh greatness beans, dressing and a wonderful slice of apple pie( whipped cream, too) All ingredients were fresh and tasted like it came from my kitchen( no, better!).
For being a museum cafe it's really good and has a good amount of options for lunch.
Good options for treats as well.
Best plan is to tour the Capitol around 10:30-11, eat lunch here, and then go through the tunnel to the library Congress around 1-1:30pm. That way you only need to go through the security once to see both sites.
Wonderful brunch experience. I love the African food options, and the better than average food preparation and presentation!
What a fun place to eat lunch while visiting the Capitol

Yo?! This food SUCKS! Mac and cheese? I could make a cheaper Kraft when I get home! Straight up cafeteria food. Don’t get the cupcakes. The red velvet tastes like paint. Pizza is cardboard with sauce. Potato salad has WAY too much mustard. Don’t go.

Great variety of food from many different countries, pasta and salad bar, awesome desserts. Jose one of the cooks explained all the Jamaican items at the one counter and how they change items all the time. He was great.

The overall experience was horrible. It was extremely hot. The A/C hadn't been turned on prior to out arrival. They had the large patio window open. We were originally sat close to the front door. Minutes later they turned the A/C on . It began to cool down, that didn't take that long. Our food arrived shortly after. The food was delicious. A few bites in and everything went south. A party of six women entered and the woman in the front was instantly agitated. Both by the temperature of the room and that there were people sitting on the first floor. Apparently she had rented the space. About three minutes later we were asked while eating to move to then second floor. We were transferred to the second floor. Much better ambience and much cooler. It's were they should have sat us from the beginning. By this time my eggs her lamb chops were cold . The experience had been tainted. We were only given an unappealing appetizer that has been overcooked. A puff pastry, an a refusal to discount the food which had cooled off cooled off. The young lady that handled the delivery of the news was very sweet and professional. However did not posses the power to effectively remedy the situation adequately. The owner only personally addressed the two larger Caribbean parties.
Nothing good to say whatsoever.
Was hoping (being it was the actual Capitol Cafeteria) that is would at least rise to a somewhat decent standard but nope, Nasty cold cheeseburger, cold fries and the self serve fountain soda wasn't mixed properly (way too little syrup).
A cafeteria in every meaning of the word to accommodate the menu desires of all variety of visitors to the Capital. It may not be just legislative staf enjoying that pizza slice but also the high school class of students. And to prove there is something special about that place, search and enjoy the dessert.
Convenient. Price was normal compared to items outside of capital.

The jerk wings, bang bang shrimp and whole red snapper was pretty good . The side of joloff rice was very good. The staff were very accommodating. Thanks Olivia for your patience.
We waited a whole hour in line to get our food, and when we did it was burnt like bro why’d we wait that long. Also, a bunch of people were yelling at us and we couldn’t understand a single world they said. It is NOT worth it
I enjoyed myself at this restaurant, however I will say the crabcakes can be seasoned better. They didn't have the red snapper I wanted , hopefully next time the do.
You can’t go wrong with any of the food choices here. From the turkey sandwich to make it yourself salad bar. The prices, though, are very high. I refer to these sorts of prices as “vacation prices”because they are actually outrageous and when you’re a tourist and cannot bring food into the capital, and if you want to eat lunch here, you’re stuck
OMG! This is the place to be for delishous african cuisine. I dined on the fried filet catfish that was cooked to perfection, very tasty with Jolie rice and cabbage. All was absolutely taseful. The waitress was extremely helpful with my dinner choice and the meal came quick and hot. I felt like I was at home. I'm coming back real soon.
