Unconventional dinner has amazing food and such a wide variety to choose from. One of my favourite ones is their chicken and waffles. However this is not your regular chicken and waffles. They are corn bread chicken and waffles, with a sweet and spicy sauce. But that’s not all, their salads are amazing also. Great ambiance, and amicable staff.

I am a DC local and I’m long over due to writing this review. I have been dining at Unconventional Diner for quite sometime, and it was an absolute culinary delight! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a chic yet inviting atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable meal. The menu offers a creative twist on classic diner fare, with dishes that are both inventive and comforting. I opted for the crispy fried chicken sandwich, and it was hands down one of the best I've ever had - perfectly seasoned, juicy, and served with a side of crispy fries. The attention to detail in each dish was evident, and the flavors were simply exquisite. The service was impeccable, with friendly and knowledgeable staff making sure that every aspect of my dining experience was top-notch. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Unconventional Diner is a must-visit destination for foodies looking for a truly memorable meal in the heart of DC.

Delicious. Not your typical diner. Offerings were unique but still provided that familiar comfort food vibe. Waitress was helpful and offered great suggestions. The Naan was the best I've had.

Food here is always good to great, but recently service has dropped from being good to bad. Last 3 visits, service has been slow and almost to the point of being rude; so not just a single individual having an off day.I really think it's the automatic 20% gratuity. (Which is then taxed, effectively making it 22%.)I'll give it a last chance, but will also be exploring the myriad other choices in the area.Original Review: Chicken and waffles are phenomenal. Chicken is moist, the granny gravy is delicious and habenero butter adds the perfect amount of heat!

Dropped in here for breakfast on a Friday morning. Not many people in the building and the hostess was the only attentive and friendly one in the building.Ryan who was the server (table of two) did not introduce himself (I had to ask another server his name) , and was not welcoming at all . I’m not sure if it’s because they were preparing for a table of 12 but we weren’t paid attention to. Apparently you can serve any kind of way in DC because it’s automatically a 20% service charge. So it’s already expected they’ll get a tip so they can be as terrible as they want. Extremely slow service from kitchen staff , bar , and the waiter . Again only a table of TWO .The pancakes were great but extremely sweet ! Would not return on account of the service.

The food was OK. I read the reviews raving about the dishes, but I unfortunately did not experience that. We ordered 3 to 4 different dishes, and they were OK. Overall, I had a good experience.

Had to come back and leave a review for this spot! I stopped in for a late dinner by myself last week and sat at the bar.Shoutout first to the crew there for making it such a fun night that I really was not expecting (Juan, Ray, Ricco y Sam). Loved the environment that can only come from a team that has fun doing what they do and who they’re with.As for food, I ordered the Brussel sprouts (cannot recommend enough) and the meatloaf. I also got their new seasonal cocktail that had an elote liquor(!!). Overall excellent and the other patrons at the bar had only the best to say about their dishes as well.

Pancakes looked great but the flavor didn’t match the price. Bacon was really good.

Everything is delicious, but don't eat the French fries ?unless you are ready for them to ruin all other fries for you forever. Honestly, didn't know you could do that to potatoes, haven't been the same since.

Unconventional Diner offers a brunch experience that truly stands out from the crowd. From the moment you step inside, the modern yet cozy atmosphere sets the perfect tone for a memorable dining experience. The menu is a delightful blend of classic brunch favorites with creative twists, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. Whether you're in the mood for sweet or savory, there's something to satisfy every palate. The Eggs Benedict with a unique hollandaise sauce and perfectly poached eggs is a standout dish, while the savory pancakes topped with house-made sausage and maple syrup provide a deliciously indulgent treat. I had the loaded breakfast biscuits, which was a bit salty but very good. I chased it down with the Hibiscus Citrus juice, which was soooo good. Definitely recommend!!!What truly sets Unconventional Diner apart is their commitment to using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, resulting in fresh and flavorful dishes that leave you wanting more. The attentive and friendly staff enhance the dining experience, providing excellent service with a genuine smile.Overall, Unconventional Diner offers a brunch experience that exceeds expectations. Whether you're catching up with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or simply treating yourself to a fantastic meal, this is a brunch spot worth visiting time and time again.
