The vibe is cool and laid back. Cocktails - like the celery gimlet - are on point. Get here to hang out, eat, watch a game and have a great drink. What more is there? Oh, great staff!

Fun place for a cocktail and a great bar snack or sandwich. Staff were super nice and attentive. The beets were a super interesting small plate. All the sandwiches that came out were huge!
Dietary restrictions: Many of the sandwiches could be made into salads for those with gluten restrictions.

Cute little bar/sandwich place with great food. The Chicky Pep No. 2 and the Onion Rings are outstanding. I've also heard the Hot Nug is very good

You’re in the right the place when compromising on your order STILL includes 5 sandwiches.
My brother and I arrived right at 11 on a Saturday to a flourishing back kitchen and welcoming staff. And, after viewing the open kitchen, we pivoted right. An open room hosting a centered, round bar is where we met our soon-to-be server and our sandwich sommelier. He answered any/all questions then advised we move to a bigger table once we decided on the order. Protip right there...
Our order consisted of the following: Chicky Pep No.2, Mort & Mootz, Spicy Panes Con Pavo, The RPG and Gas Station Migos. ‘Migos appears to not yet be a menu staple so that was my first vote. The remaining four were toss-ups yet curated choices. See, I’m not picky but aim for sandwich size. My brother, on the other hand, IS and aims for quality above all. Your Only Friend showcases both. Again, came to the right place.
Sandwiches came out one after another in no particular order. Oh, and after the quickly prepared and promptly fried Cool Ranch Dorito’d onion rings. Meant to mention these. Much like every single sandwich were phenomenal. Review over.
Really though, there’s no ranking. No comparison. No YOF “favorite” here. Every sandwich from the 5(!) were standouts, worthy of all the glory and praise one could give, well, a sandwich individually. Quality coupled with satisfaction delivered bite by bite made ordering dessert a no brainer. Insert the Atlantic Beach Pie, a custard pie reminding me of a tartless Key Lime one if there ever was such a thing. Well done.
While I don’t plan on ordering 5 sandwiches my next visit, I DO plan on returning for cocktails and wings. Oh, and their absinthe pie! Pretty sure it won’t have me hallucinating on how great it is either...

Their subs are easily one of the best I have ever had.
oxtail cheese : The oxtail was perfect and literally melted in my mouth. It was pretty heavy too even though a bit expensive.
Cocktail: Their bartenders are very professional and make amazing drinks.

AMAZING! i love the sandwich/lounge vibes. Its so cozy and cute in there and the menu is just soooo good. Got the chopped oxtail and the chicky pep. AND the cool ranch onion rings which were just so freaking good. The service was also just so nice and friendly, and patient even though i was totally indecisive! Will be back when im DC to try more :)

Very tasty sandwiches that will send your cholesterol into orbit, but arguably worth it. Recommend the chickey pep, hot nug, and the cacio e pepe fries. My only complaint was the spirit-free margarita that tasted like straight lime juice. However, my partner said her gimlet was delicious. The staff was cool and didn’t charge me for the marg.

We stopped by on a Friday night and were greeted by a cozy atmosphere with a beautiful wrap around bar with a stained glass mosaic hanging above. My favorite cocktail was the celery gimlet and it paired well with the miso Chex mix. Jackson took care of us all night and was timely and professional. I could only finish half of my chicky pep no 2 and my husband got a mort & motz to go. I can't wait for us to go back!

I'm sorry this review doesn't include pics of the sandwiches, but they never last long enough to get a picture. This is the best sandwich place in DC. Like DC's own personal Turkey and the Wolf, the food here is playful and delicious, a stoner's dream made with Iron Chef precision. From cool ranch dust onion rings, to a McDonalds-inspired giant spicy nugg sandwich, the menu is always exciting. If I lived within walking distance, I'd have at least 1 Mort & Mootz every week.
Drinks are also incredible and fun. The orange Julius and clear rum and coke are highlights, but the bartenders (Jackson especially is an MVP) are highly knowledgeable and can suggest exactly what you didn't know you wanted. Treat yo'self and go here asap.

Your Only Friend is a real gem in DC. The food and drinks are so creative and things you could t find anywhere else. The vibe is chill but there’s always a good crowd. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Truly my favorite sandwich place is the DMV!
