The small plates are super cute and yummy, though too small to fill my hangry stomach. (They don't have entries on the menu though I remember ordering some special entree last time ToT) For a place with this pr, they need to improve on the service.
So, this is the end of an era. When I found out that Zentan will be closing it's doors on June 30 I jumped at the chance to try out the restaurant that sits oh so geographically close to me, but yet I've never been to. We decided on the Kuidaore menu, which I chalked up to be essentially a tasting menu. That's how the meal started, but ended differently than anything else I've ever tried. After almost 10 plates of food waitress came back and asked what else we want to try. We were really confused but realize that this meal is essentially anything you want to order from their menu. Ordering until you are too full to order any more. Did have a few 'off the menu' dishes not available to diners not partaking in this menu that they will bring out. Overall, if you're a big eater this totally makes sense. It was an interesting way to try most of the menu before this establishment closes for good.
It had been a few years since I ate here and it was nothing like I remembered. The food was not nearly as good as it was before and the service also wasn't good. There were a few food items I had to turn away they were so bad. The quality of sashimi was good but most of the food lacked flavor. There were also fruit flies everywhere. Overall a very disappointing experience. Especially for the price.
I have been here before for lunch and had a great bowl of ramen. Was hoping for the same this evening. Bratneder helping me believed they had ramen and to both of our surprise, it's only for lunch. Had a couple rolls, both were very tasty, however the wasabi didnt clump or stick together so it was a challenge to move it. Overall very average and much better sushi and ramen in town.
The Imo Tempura is my favorite. Small plates, delicious food.
Incredible sushi! Incredible bar selection. Well worth price.
I am not a sushi expert. I walked in this place on a whim one recent night, the last customer to walk in before closing time. The staff was very nice and the beautiful lady serving took the time to explain their menu and the range of 2 to 5 small dishes customers usually order. I settled for two, one eggplant-based dish (picture) and a more typical rice/fish concoction. I swallowed them down with water. I'm only sorry I didn't arrive earlier and I didn't order more. This was a good experience.
We had a 5:30 reservation and arrived at 5:15. The friendly host explained that the restaurant didn't actually open until 5:30, but invited us to have a drink at the bar while we waited. Apparently, that was not ok with the bartender: while we sat down at the bar, he tersely exchanged words with the host. We awkwardly sat for a few minutes while trying to decide what to do. Eventually, a female staffer apologized for the confusion and offered to get us drinks. I ordered a cocktail, she relayed the order to our surly bartender, and she took off. The bartender continued to slowly polish glasses until he could be bothered to make my drink, after which he gruffly placed it in front of me. After several more painfully awkward minutes, we were seated at a table. Our server was friendly and polite, and walked us through the menu. We ordered a bit of everything, and it was: fine. Not great, not terrible. Is it possible our experience was clouded by our initial reception? Without a doubt. I'm not sure what was going on there (ummm... if you don't open until 5:30, why were your doors open at 5:15?), but it felt completely inhospitable and you can bet we'll never return. I would have given them 1 star if not for the server. There are far more (and better) Japanese restaurants in town. Sayonara, Zentan.
I rarely give five stars but OMGoodness! From the garlic edamame to the sushi rolls everything was delicious. I mean delicious! I was hungry but I wasn't starving so it wasn't because I was hungry that I feel this way. The sushi was so fresh and the flavors melted together in your mouth. There was not too much of anything or too little of anything. I hate hate hate when I order sushi and it includes something like Unagi, for instance and it's so small that you can hardly even see it l! You don't really taste it, instead you taste the rice or the cream cheese. Not so here at this restaurant! All of the flavors together were just perfect. I highly recommend the garlic edamame. We ordered the braised pork jowl and I loved the meat on the piece that I had, I did not eat all of it because, well I just couldn't! It was delicious and I had to let that go because there were too many other things I wanted to eat and I had already been a little bad earlier in the day! This shrimp has a kick to it so be ready for that if you order the shrimp appetizer. We had: The firecracker sushi: Shrimp tempura, spicy jumbo lump crab salad, tempura flakes YUM. The Sake to Me: Tuna, salmon, yellowtail and avocado wrapped in konbu, which is edible kelp. It's different, but worth the try. This was my favorite. We also had spicy tuna. Fresh and spicy! Come prepared with an appetite, because you will be very sad if you can't finish it all.
Awful experience. Food was pretty good, service was horrendous. Waiter claimed one of my friends didn't order food, even though we all saw her order and him write it down. Waiter also kept disappearing, and forgot my wine order. "Shareable size" is not sharable. Maybe for 2 but awful for groups over 3. Do not recommend.

Truly one of the most extraordinary meals I and my friends have ever experienced. Service was incredible, food was incredible, environment incredible, Chef came out to thank us and asked how everything was. Gave us complimentary dessert. Wonderful evening. My friends and I have both lived and visit Japan frequently, but this is among the best Japanese food we have ever eaten. Truly inspired and creative combinations of taste and texture. I will be back next week and bring more friends! Thank everyone there! Tony
I visited Zentan with coworkers during restaurant week and we loved it! The miso soup was light and delicious. I enjoyed the inclusion of tofu. The dressing on the beet salad made it even more delicious. These first two courses were pretty small so when our server brought out my Sake Bowl I was surprised. The portion was just big enough so that I was full for hours. All the food was amazing and the presentation was great too.
A disappointment I have never seen rolls appeared on sushi boat. I think the food is overpriced. Service is not good.
Really nice rooftop bar for the warmer months with a good happy hour, including sushi and funny names for drinks. There's also a nice view from the top of the hotel.
I called on Thursday at 2pm to make reservations for Friday at 7pm. I specifically requested not to be sat at the tall, long table close to the door because that's where they always sit me. The woman I talked to took my name and phone number and told me it wasn't going to be a problem. We showed up on Friday and sure enough, they didn't have my name, phone number or reservation and could only sit us at the table that I hate. (....long stools that hurt your back and close to the bar and door- loud and no privacy.) We were seated for almost 15 minutes before our waiter showed up and even then, he was out of it and patronizing. If I had to rate this restaurant on food only, I would give it 5 stars easily. The food is excellent. I may still go back, who knows.
