Very clean and delicious soup! The atmosphere is cool with anime decor and movies playing.

Kakure is an eccentric atmosphere you’d expect from Japan, but the corn-syrup Americanized version. I’ve never experienced a sweet soda flavored miso soup nor American bbq “buckwheat noodles.” Unagi should be delicate and paired with well-known “eel-sauce” in America, but for me it is as simply ruined by over-sweetness and lack of savory. The cherry on top was freezer burnt mochi. Go Kumamoto if you want real decent Japanese-style cuisine (ramen).

*update We finished the meal at home when we could scrutinize it in an unbiased local. Wife had sick stomach from her beef bowl and after opening the take home container was opened, there was indeed something not right about it. Rice smelled funny too. Maybe the egg that was placed on the dish was bad? I was ok for once and it seems that mine is generally made of rice paper too.*Apologies for finishing this review when we finished the food, but it was excellent. The wife and I really enjoy our time with this restaurant sister's restaurant, Chiwa Bistro. The good folks at Chiwa suggested Kakure and we accepted the challenge. Since we had some business in Newark, we checked them up last night. Now, usually we get the same things as a bassline that compares one meal to one from another place. That would be me. The wife just enjoys the food. Once again the decorations were fantastic, with all of the Demon Slayer figures to the random TVs with random anime on. Bathroom is gender neutral but contains wanted posters if you're hunting down the Straw Hats. Its can be a bit claustrophobic and when we walked in the place was packed. We got the last table in the place. As far as the help went there was this lone server covering the whole restaurant. We did get our dinner in a timely manner and still warm. I got the teriyaki and the wife got the seared pork butt bowl. We did try to order a few things too but those were items that run out? Run out of tea?All in all, the meal was pretty good. Not perfect but this might be a good place to go to find out if a new romantic interest is as into anime as well. Might even want to share the larger bento box since it's meant for sharing. Definitely want to share a bite or two of the Mont Blanc, which I've never had. They're charging the same prices that their sister restaurant charges, and it's a pick your poison as to whether you want to deal with Newark or the mall, but you're choice. They both serve food that the other doesn't have on the menu.

Excellent. Big fan of this place. Honestly I feel like they're slept on pretty hard because they're next to Kumamoto, but I prefer this place between the two at this point. You basically never need to wait to sit down here, and the owner's the type of dude to memorize your name and your favorite order after 1-2 visits. Strong anime vibes... convinced me to binge watch demon slayer as it's always playing on one of the TVs! (it's good but JJK is better, lol)Strong, diverse menu. Love the soba noodle soup, filling, customizable and always prepared just right. Dumplings are HEAVENLY. My mom's a fan of the bento boxes, they're a fun and well balanced meal. She also likes the Tofu soup a lot.Seriously... Try it for yourself. I bet you'll become an obsessive regular like me! ;)Vegetarian options: My mom's a vegetarian, I take her here a lot. She LOVES the tofu in the soba noodle soup. Can also go with grilled veggies, they complement damn near everything.Parking: Plenty of parking behind the shop, and most of it is free.

This place surprised me being a little hidden restaurant you would of never noticed unless you walked right by it and saw all the cool anime figures they had in the front. But the noodles were great I strongly recommend the steak it was amazing serving size was good all for around $30 for 2 people I will definitely be checking this place out again in the near future

Slightly hidden from main street this is the cozy tasty place you were looking for. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great for people into japanese anime and culture.Food is fantastic and the menu offers something a little different than your usual Japanese and ramen places. Vegetarian friendly. Highly recommended!

Great little spot in Newark! The food is consistently delicious, and the server is quick, attentive, and kind. I love the option to get the buckwheat noodle platter which is a cold noodle dish. Not many places in Delaware have this delicious option!! The chicken skewers are amazing, the box meals are fantastic - you get a lot of variety for a very fair price point, and their dessert options are unique and tasty too. I personally love their crepe cake, and the chestnut cake is good too. A great spot that I visit with friends.
