I happened upon this establishment a few weeks ago while waiting to take the long drive to EWR. I stopped in, perused the menu, and decided upon lamb chops with the non spicy house sauce, Mac n cheese, and candied yams. The food was one word…FANTASTIC! The service by the bartender (I decided to sit at the bar) was wonderful; the lady spoke to me as tho we’d known each other for years! She was very gracious. And the decor and music was so inviting, not to mention the clean bathrooms! My overall experience was amazing. And here it is, I’m back today, a Tuesday, where they’re closed😂. I pray that the staff is taking much needed time off from thier awesomeness. I’ll be back tomorrow ☺️❤️🫡
Placed an order and 1.5hrs later, I never received our food.
FIRE! For me, everything hit. I got the fried catfish platter and it was ALL THAT. The seasoning on the cat fish was real nice and the fry on it was perfect. Crisp, not greasy and tender cat fish under the batter. The mac n' cheese was flavorful: baked well and thick. The greens: tender but not soggy n' wilted or full of stems. Tasted fresh n' leafy with a rich, full flavor from the turkey. Oh, nice large portions of everything too. My platter was HEAVY and that corn bread on the side: so moist n' sweet with that lil' bit of stick on the top of it too. Honey, I WILL BE BACK SOON. I referred several of my co-workers here and THEY TOO agreed: Aunt Vonda's is THE SPOT. They were just there yesterday (three people and they all agreed it was delicious). Ya'll are the talk of my office now. For anyone that wants delicious soul food you can stand on n' be proud of: come to Aunt Vonda's, baby, they got you!

Definitely one of the best places in Delaware to get you a home cooked meal. The small drawback to this is that there are usually long wait times for your food. But for me it's worth it.
Good music, good food, and nice and patient young man at the register, will definitely return.

So all and all I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience here. The vibe on a dreary Friday afternoon was chill. There was a line but it moved quickly. Service was outstanding. I only took off a star because I ordered the shrimp fried rice. That portion was huge! Pleasantly surprised on that aspect. I feel it could have used more shrimp or even a larger size of shrimp but it was standard of what you find in fried rice. My only complaint was the fried rice has a very strong flavor… I couldn’t quite make it out but I knew it was familiar. Sesame oil. It has a very distinct flavor profile and it was overpowering. I was a little disappointed but got up this morning determined to fix it up and get it how I wanted. I added more veggies 🥦 🥕🫑 and more teriyaki sauce and a dash of light soy sauce and better than bouillon roasted garlic. A quarter cup of water and refried it on the stove and for me is much better and more palatable. I still give high rating because 1. Black owned business. 2. The quality of the food. 3. The portion was very generous and hefty. That can definitely be eaten over a few days. 4. Although there was about a 20-30min wait, that’s to be expected for good food and this time of the year. Highly recommend and love my strawberry pound cake! 🍰 that too was a generous, and hefty portion. I look forward to trying other dishes in the near future. The value for the amount of food you get was phenomenal. Also appreciate that they accommodated my request for no egg in my stir fry. Go there and get a plate!

I visited here on Dec. 8th with my family and the food was good. I believe the owner was in the front taking our orders and the food took about 40 minutes because everything is made fresh. I will definitely be taking that drive from PA to come back & eat again!!

Ordered in person and was told the food would be ready in 45min-1hour. Received the food, order was incorrect but after waiting that long who would want to go back.
If you are reading this, you are better off grabbing the ingredients from Acme, making the food yourself, and still taking less time than this place.
The ONLY item that was good was the catfish. But everything else was mid at best:
-mac and cheese was unseasoned
-sweet potatoes were bland
-fries unseasoned and mushy
-seafood cheesesteak was dry
We will not be returning.

This place feels like home. Sophisticated decor with rooted character, hospitable staff and a clean environment. Such a calm and professional experience dining here. I will definitely be back even though I'm 25mins away. 🤗

The owner was very pleasant and helpful. It took our food a long time to arrive almost 2 hours. We order the food around 1:30 and it was delivered at 4. We had a hard time ordering online. They had to send the manager to bring the food. It was our 1st time ordering.

Food is good but waiting 2 hours for you food is a bit much. You need a better system or hire more people….
