Cafe Tal was better a couple years ago, when it was next door… now owned by Ole Tapas / inside Ole restaurant, food quality went down significantly. I was disappointed in the flavor and presentation. Photos online were not the same meal i paid for in person. Grilled chicken was pale and slimy, yellow rice was flavorless. They lost the Caribbean touch.

These people are a complete rip off. They even changed their name, and did not even bother to change it on their Yelp, probably due to poor management. The new name is "Cafetal Mofongo" smh. They overcharged me for a meal that used to be $17.00 on their menu, but I was charged $35.00. I was also told it was "generous portions for two people". Please see pictures below. Then I asked for the chicken entree, but was sold a children's menu item. The portions were outrageously small. When I asked the person that took my order, he just shrugged and said, "that's the way it is". I would NEVER return. I even gave them a tip smh.

We ordered empanadas for empanadas day and they were great but the price on the menu was $5. But once there they were $7. We ordered a sandwich and some rice to,, everything was good. We just were very upset that everything wasn't the right price,,, we expected $31. But paid $41. So no tip,,I told him to change the menu on line as that's the only one they have,, we won't go again because of that,, false advertising,, with no senior discount offered either,,

After waiting for almost 2 hours, 3 of us in a party of 12 never got our food. Everyone else was done eating so we cancelled the remaining orders. Plus it’s extremely cold in there. The food is ok, needs more seasoning and the Mofongos are dry... mofongos should all come with lots of sauce regardless of what meat topping you get. The rice and beans are subpar... I wouldn’t recommend this place at all for dinner... maybe takeout for a quick lunch (if that).

Absolutely delicious! We came here for lunch and left so full and happy. We got queso frito and tostones, ropa vieja, pastelón de maduro, and budin de pan. All of it was so delicious and flavorful! Ropa vieja is the only thing I eat when I go to Cuba and this one has more sauce in comparison to there but the flavor was just like it supposed to be. This may be the first but is definitely not the last time I go to Cafetal. During covid-19 Ole Tapas is taking orders and serving for both restaurants, so we were dining in Ole Tapas.

Ordered the Mofongo flank steak and the ropa vieja. As a puerto rican i had high hopes for this spot. And can say the food was very disappointing. The Ropa Vieja was oily and over powered the taste. The flank steak was fatty and not a flank steak. To say the least i will never order for this place again. At those prices i was expecting good food. I have had better food in north philly then this spot.
Great Paella. Pricy but delicious. Food is served basically family style... Nice atmosphere, very clean restaurant. Definitely would go again.

My first experience with Cafe Tal was not a good one... I placed my order via DoorDash, and chose the arroz con pollo platter with rice and a side of beans for $14, an order of maduros for $4, and an iced tea for $1.50. I was SEVERELY disappointed with the amount of food I received for almost $20... The best way I can put it? It would all fit in a small bowl, including the maduros (four small pieces, gee thanks) Now, the food itself? Delicious, absolutely incredible. I plan on visiting myself once the stay at home order is over to give it another try and HOPE that the portions I received were by mistake, and just an oversight... If that turns out to be the case I will, of course, edit my review.

Not many places around here offer Mofongo and other PR dishes. I got the shrimp Mofongo in garlic cream..honestly I didn't LOVE the garlic cream sauce think it needs to be creamier ..the fried cheese in guava sauce is so good though!

Food is excellent and customer service is Amazing. Ordered from Grub Hub and they forgot one of my side dishes. Called the restaurant and their staff personally delivered the dish to my home.
