Came here for lunch for the very first time and was amazed I haven't ate here before. I got the beef Pattie with oxtail gravy and it was absolutely amazing. I will be returning to try more of their menu. They were very busy and had only one person serving dine and take out so it was a long wait time for everything. Hopefully this is one off or they are in process of hiring day time help to lower the long wait times! Server was friendly though! Highly recommend!

D&H is one of the best spots in Newark for food, beer and vibes. The music playing here invokes the powerful happiness of the southern islands. The food here is as close to perfect as one could hope for. The beer is cold and cheap. Currently 5.5usd for a pitcher of domestics, which as far as I know is the best happy hour deals in town. The chef in the open kitchen is an absolute wizard and master of spices. If I had to only chose one spot in newark to frequent it would absolutely be D&H. Don't come in if your in a hurry, this is not a place to be In a rush. Come in, relax and enjoy yourself. This place has maintained its excellence for many years and I hope many years to come. 5 stars ?

Drove 90 miles for a wedding and drove 10 more for the best Jerk Pork I have ever eaten. Haven’t been here for 7 years after moving from Delaware and nothing has changed. 5*

We are a large family, originally from Jamaica now living in NY, who travel extensively nationally and internationally.
Although migrants, we cook authentic Jamaican meals at home.
We know good food.
Pros:
We had a friendly server with a good memory (she did not write our orders).
Good drinks
Cons:
Very loud music
The food was NOT made by a Jamaican and was BLAND. Our "jerk chicken" tasted more like an unpalatable baked chicken. Our 15 year old commented, "nothing is seasoned".
I'm concerned that non-Jamaicans trying the food here will think it's authentic to the taste of Jamaica. IT IS NOT.
A couple of us needed Tums after the visit. If not for this, I would have tried again. Should we be in the area again, I will not.

This is my second time trying this place. About 6 years ago i tried their jerk chicken platter and the gave me a boneless chicken breast not even cut up. Looked like it was boiled.
Yesterday i tried their ox tails because someone told me to give them another try.
As a native of Philadelphia my standards are always going to be set high. The food here compared to Philly is just horrible.
The oxtails although they give you a good amount, lacked seasoning. They used Lima beans instead of the red beans you typically are used to.
The menu on their website is wrong. The pricing is higher. When i looked online they showed 2 prices for the oxtails as a small and large option. She corrected me when i asked for a large and stated they only gave 1 size. The pricing was $2 more online.
I also tried the Jamaican beef patties and that was my first time ever eating one. Honestly it was amazing. I have no complaints about that and was tempting to drive back to get more.
I’m not sure who is cooking the oxtails but i highly recommend taking a trip to Philly and there’s a few places you can learn from. Little delicious, Sundays best and top taste.
There is nothing wrong with learning from others in the business.
I hope to visit in the near future if the food has gotten better.

Is better than D&H overpriced for no reason
I went there today with my wife, and it was the best Jamaican food I've ever had. I've eaten from many Jamaican restaurants including restaurants in Jamaica and the food here was fresh and flavorful. The service was also phenomenal.
