I cannot say enough about our experience at GRAIN in Newark, DE. My friend took me out for my birthday and told me to pick somewhere to go. I looked on Main Street in Newark as it is a great halfway point for us. The minute I looked on their menu, I knew there was about 10 things I HAD to HAVE! I got there early and was immediately helped when asked for a party of 2. It looked like there would be a long wait, so I said I would sit outside in their heated tent. I was approached by a man who had been cleaning tables, delivering food and basically working harder than anyone else. He scooted me to a table for 2. I am disabled but don't look like it so I feel like he noticed that I needed to sit. He continued to help us all night. I later found out he was the manager- What a great showing of leading by example! Our server was ANDY. He was SO personable, and kind and catered to our every need! We ordered the POKE GUAC as an app, I had a BLUEBERRY LAVENDER MOJITO (actually 2 of them :) )- HEAVENLY! For our meals Sue had the PLAIN NACHOS and I had the CITRUS AVO BOWL.- delicious! The food was amazing, the service was fun, that atmosphere is great and I love that the manager doesn't expect anything of his employees that he wouldn't do himself, as he was the hardest working person in the room! Again, ANDY was phenomenal.... The kind of guy you cheer for, and because of him, I wanted to take the time to write this review. He brought me over a free dessert because of my birthday. Sue & I shared it and couldn't finish it! Between ANDY and the manager (I wish I would've gotten his name) made out experience to pleasant... We felt so welcome and taken care of. It was truly a special experience and I cannot wait to go back to try more menu items, although my meal was so good I would struggle not to order the same thing.

Simply put, GRAIN offered a great menu, great personalities and a great overall dining experience. We are bummed that ANDY is leaving to move to Florida, however with the action of the manager I have no doubt the rest of the staff is great as well. The manager sets the tone and he really does it right!

Will be back again.... soon.

My party came in, in the middle of a dinner rush. Once we got seated the assistant GM did a wonderful job of taking care of our table. The food, drinks and atmosphere were great. 5 stars!

Had a good experience at Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen. The fried pickles and Teriyaki bowl were really good. Chicken sandwich was okay, and the drinks were good too. Overall, a nice place to visit.

Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen can get a bit noisy, but the food makes up for it. They always have something new on the menu while still keeping a solid rotation of favorites. The beer selection is excellent, and the service is attentive and helpful. A great spot if you like variety and a lively atmosphere.

Sorry people, no pics because the food came so fast, and smelled so delicious, that my husband and I started to eat right away, our Whiskey and Olé smashburguers which were amazingly good! We usually go to the bar, because it is easier, we don't waste a whole table and it is easier to get drinks. And we had the nicest bartender who went through hoops to find our favorite beverage. They won another regular!

We spent $82 on a grilled beef and cheese and a smoked salmon sandwich with 1 beer and a Knob Creek 9 year (mid level drink at best). They charged $2 for 5 cubes of ice in the whiskey. Complete rip off. The food was OK, and service was good...but you can get that at Applebee's for less.

I lived in Newark for years and it’s my visit time dining in. I had two drinks with a friend and one entree. I liked the food and drinks but you should definitely look at the prices when coming or plan to spend a little more than usual.

I want to express my deep disappointment with my experience at Grain on Main Street in Newark.

On November 15th at exactly 10 AM, I called Grain to ask if I could make a reservation. I understand that reservations aren’t normally accepted unless the party is over 25 or for specific holidays. However, I explained to the person I spoke with he identified himself as Andy that my request was for a party of 16 for a surprise birthday dinner. He told me that although they don’t usually take reservations, he would make a note with my information and assured me that my guests would be taken care of before I arrived with the birthday celebrant.

At 6 PM, my friends started messaging me that there were no seats available and that no one on staff even knew an “Andy.” One of my guests ended up searching for tables on their own just so we could sit together and keep the surprise intact.

When I arrived, no server approached our table for about 20 minutes. I went to the counter to speak with the manager, showed him the call from that morning, and expressed my frustration. He simply turned his back on me in a very rude manner. He was a Black male, semi-bald. I decided to move on and try to manage things myself. I had to grab chairs, adjust tables, and connect them so my guests could sit together.

Food eventually came out, but everyone looked miserable. I asked for small plates and utensils nothing came for over an hour, so we ended up helping ourselves. One of my guests was even yelled at for standing near the bar, which I understand may be a rule, but we didn’t have enough seats in the first place.

By this point, I just accepted that the night wasn’t going to go the way we planned. I still paid the bill and even left a decent tip, and that was the only time I saw a smile from our server.

My guests were extremely disappointed, and so was I. We come to Grain often and always speak highly of it to our friends but after this experience, unfortunately, not anymore

I picked up a take out order and the manager was rude as hell. I asked for some sauce for my fries and he rolled his eyes and huffed and puffed about it. I asked what kind of sauces do they have for dipping & his response was “regular sauces” like wth does that mean. I just took my food and left. As someone who works in the food/service industry it’s never that big a deal to grab a sauce. I would expect more from a manager at that!

Disappointing. Neither the bartender or our wait staff knew anything about the beers they had. And if I'm going to spend 20 bucks on nachos I expect some substance besides a pile of chips with some sauce sprinkled on it. Definitely overpriced for both the experience and the quality of the food. One in our party didn't even get his meal till we were mostly done eating.

Did not care for this place.
The crab dip should be called cream cheese dip.
