A wonderful place with a healthy variety of food so there's something for everyone. They're very accommodating with the options— not everything is vegan, but it feels like at least half of the menu is, and if it isn't then it can be made vegan. Menu items are conveniently and clearly labeled so you know what is vegan, gluten-free, or has nuts, among other things, and I can't stress enough how much I really wish every place did this. The seitan wings and loaded totchos are some of my favorites on the appetizer end- the "wings" in particular feel nice and juicy and have a great texture that I've been trying and failing to replicate at home. They have a really killer plant burger too known as the California Gardenator, which for me is always a big +10 points especially seeing how many places' "plant options" will just be an Impossible Patty; they also have delicious and flavorful tacos made with soy curls. The location unfortunately has the same "issue" as the other Main Street locations in Newark, which is that's there not a great way to quickly park and go even if you just want to pick something up (and all the parking spots on Main Street are metered because of course they need to capitalize off of the UD kids) but the actual building is a gorgeous establishment with great indoor/outdoor seating and friendly staff. Some may disagere but I found the prices pretty reasonable for the quality and it feels like the portions are plentiful— I've underestimated how much food they give you a few times.

I've loved Homegrown for years and keep coming back for fresh ingredients and healthy, flavorful options. The crowd felt younger than I remembered, with a few bar crawls spilling onto Main Street—so lots of lively groups and questionable daytime attire 😆 (college town vibes, to be expected). Service was solid. The pot o' fries hit the spot, my apple & Brie salad with grilled chicken was fresh and delicious (love their house-made dressings), and the mocktail was refreshing. The only miss was the sweet potato fries, which came out soggy. All in all, it was a good experience and I'll be back.

The four of us thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cocktails were delicious. Espresso Martinis and a Milk & Honey were huge hits. The salmon tacos were perfect. Sweet potato fries and Seitan Banh Mi was delicious. Took home desserts - couldn't fit anything else. Can't wait to try them!

Great vibe, delicious food and drink, I love this place and with the new renovation, the place is amazing! I was here before the renovation and it was still a great place to go to, there was live music also. I enjoy my time here each time and I bring friends from out of town here to experience the great food and drinks, as well as the awesome art on the walls.

We had brunch with our daughter for her 21st birthday and they made it special. (We were running a few minutes late for our reservation and they called to check on us - even suggesting free parking options.) We have been several times prior and the food has been consistently good, with a wide variety of options. The staff is pleasant and professional.

The restaurant was very accommodating, even after modifying the number of guests in my party. They were able to contact me and make sure that I was satisfied with reservation. The service was great and the food was excellent once my party arrived.

Home Grown Café is a vibrant downtown institution with over two decades under its belt, beloved by locals and students alike. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by brightly colored murals, lively acoustic music, and a warm, energetic atmosphere that reflects the café’s mission: fresh, scratch-made food for all dietary needs. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, gluten‑sensitive, or a devoted carnivore, the menu offers something satisfying for everyone. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly—always happy to suggest daily specials or adapt dishes to dietary requests. I visited on a Monday evening and ordered their southwestern chili and roast beef club. The chili arrived piping hot with a robust smoky flavor, topped with creamy avocado, cheddar, and cilantro. The roast beef club featured thick slices of roast beef stacked perfectly with lettuce, tomato, and aioli on hearty whole grain bread. For dessert, their dark chocolate budino was a standout—rich, silky, bittersweet chocolate topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of sea salt. Portions are generous, presentation fresh and appetizing. The bar offers a broad selection of craft cocktails, mocktails, over 65 beers, and a thoughtful wine list. The service was prompt without feeling rushed. Overall, Home Grown strikes an ideal balance between casual comfort and culinary creativity. It’s clear why it has earned “Best of Delaware Upstate” year after year. A lively, inclusive, locally rooted dining experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Gotta try the cauliflower buffalo wings! Friendly staff. College area but school is out so the place was empty at the time I visited.
